2.5⭐️ I feel bad for rating this so low because it wasn’t a bad book but it just wasn’t for me personally. I had trouble keeping up with the story at times and it was a little confusing trying to figure out what was going on at times. I’m usually a fan of fake dating but I didn’t really like it that much in this book. Some of the characters also came out of left field and I was wondering why they were there at times bc they didn’t have a big impact on the story.

I just wanted to say again that it’s not a bad book per se but it just wasn’t for me!

DID NOT FINISH

DNF @51% | I honestly just keep putting off going back to this book because it’s not holding my interest. I feel like Dylan’s character has so much more depth and emotion. While Theo’s character traits feel like they match whatever is convenient for the sake of the story. I’m not saying I won’t go back to this book, but I just don’t think I’m going to finish it rn.

This book was so cute!!! I loved the way the author taught the reader about Singaporean food and culture without it seeming obvious or patronising. I feel like the love story flowed really well and I’m glad there were other important storylines around it too.
It was obviously slightly predictable and very cheesy, but I think that’s what I was looking for!

I really liked the two main characters together, they had a silly meet cute and Dylan being so obvious to how much Theo liked him from the beginning is so me. Theo was so thoughtful and they were both so sweet with each other’s family and had better communication for a YA romance book.

I really wanted this to be super effing cute, and it ended up being only fine, in a word. It's serviceable, but it was missing a certain...something.

The romance storyline really needed more time and fleshing out in order for me to truly buy into it, but there was so much going on around the couple that it took away valuable opportunities for the falling in love parts to shine.

And the individuals who did the main couple wrong on various occasions? None of them got any sort of comeuppance. Now, maybe it's just the judgy ho in me, but I savor revenge and get satisfaction in knowing that actions have consequences. But no one here experienced any of the sort. Some even got rewarded after they were let off scott free!

Fake dating is a super popular trope, and for good reason. I love it most of the time, but in this case, it was only present for a short amount of time, not nearly long enough to justify putting it in the title to lure you in. And also, I love cheese. I eat that ish up with a spatula at every opportunity (one look at my account on MyDramaList says it all) but the ending was a tad too cheesy for me, with the way everything worked out and was wrapped up in a neat bow.

I do appreciate the descriptions of baking and cooking throughout, those were delightful, and the overall writing style is very solid and does its job well. I could really find myself in Dylan's shoes and got a good sense of who he is and found him sympathetic and relatable, so there is that.
