4.5 stars rounded up! I really enjoyed this and the way the author developed the characters and their stories. Some parts were definitely frustrating, but it was absolutely a book that made you feel what the characters were feeling. I didn’t want to put this one down. Overall really enjoyed it!
A little bit of a hard read not because of the writing (which was good) but because the story is so rage-inducing. A good story with a satisfying ending.

For a book all about taking women seriously you’d think the author would extend that grace to her own characters. Everyone felt hollow, inconsistent, and cartoonish. Most of the plot was over dramatic to the point of absurdity. It seemed like the author so desperately wanted to prove that she did some (halfhearted) research that she shoehorned in ridiculous details, which ended up feeling amateurish and incongruous with the supposed expertise of her characters. Not to mention anachronisms (hello Sweden!)
That said, the main idea behind the plot—a woman using a cooking show to teach housewives that their minds are as valuable as men’s —is a great one. The themes of sexism in science and women being devalued are such rich soil for storytelling as well. I just wish this book had been written by someone up to the task.
