I am grateful that this book did not go the way of "it's the 60s and this feminist woman has a bad time" but the end which much too perfect for me to rate it higher than 3 stars

I absolutely despised the first 50% and loved every word of the second. I simply cannot believe how stark the difference was. Every interaction between scientists in the first half: bad, smugly written, my head has been squished to pulp with the hammer of SEXISM BAD IN THE 50S. Every interaction between any other combo of people in the second: not that.

But the dog and the precocious child. Why. Why those things.
