Not a ton of substance here, and I felt like the characters went from “enemies” to “I love you” quicker than was believable - especially since neither of them seemed to have real hidden feelings about the other before things got going. It was still a good time, just not my favorite.

Troy and Atlas. Enemies to lovers step bros. Hot. Cuties.

No build-up
No chemistry.
No creativity.
It all felt very: Been there done that.
The writing was frankly lazy and mediocre.

As usual... expectations are a bitch.

Hot but kind of not that exciting? No real angst to it at all. Middle of the road. Smut was good but also wtf do they have against lube???

The Step Bet

I usually dislike books that are full of angst, but I loved this one!
I loved the enemies to-lovers’ aspect of this one and it felt very relatable. You see why they are at odds, but I loved how they came together.

We don’t really go into depth with these characters and that is okay for me because I was here for the ride. I devoured this book, and I keep thinking about them. Might just have to do a relisten.

Loved that narration Tim isn’t always my go to, but he really outdid himself in this one.

DID NOT FINISH

Went in with low expectations, but this was exhausting. Dynamic wasn't for me, bets and dialogue felt beyond unbelievable, and the POVs were indistinguishable. I've only ever enjoyed one book by this duo, and while Riley Hart is a bit hit or miss for me, the other author has never worked for me, so I think maybe I just need to pass on their future releases.

One of my top favorite writing duos is kicking off a new series - and I LOVED it!

If you're looking for:
-Step-brothers
-Animosity/rivals to lovers
-New adult college set romance
-Bi-awakening and fun first times
-High heat and lots of emotions
-Good dudebros!

Then get this book! I think you'll fall in love with these guys and their group of friends.

I adore both of the MCs, how stubborn they are, their banter and UST-filled chemistry, how they act all tough guy and uncaring on the outside but in reality are craving love and finding that person.

Both Atlas and Troy have a lot of emotional and familial baggage - they have some toxic family members and trauma, but I love that they're kinda each others' safe haven throughout it all. That despite the bets and the rivalry, they also can come together and protect each other. (It's very much that "I'll pick on him all I want, he's my step-brother, but HOW DARE you come at him!!!" energy and I'm here for that LOL)

And I adored Atlas - his bravado and tough guy act, but who has a heart of gold and wants and deserves epic love. And Troy is perfect for him.

I'm so glad the conflict in the third act wasn't relationship or communication. For young college bros, they had surprisingly excellent communication once those walls started coming down LOL. So thank you for a solid non-break-up conflict, Riley and Devon!

This is a great new book from two great authors, and I want more!!

I received an arc from Literally PR in exchange for a review. My thoughts are my own.
