Ian Troy was captured and tortured by his enemies. Drugged to keep his magic suppressed, Ian Troy is broken. Even though the Shinree are no longer slaves, they are living in fear and are nowhere near free. Ian is starting to find that he is not who he used to be and strives to find the truth behind his connection to the Crown of Stones. Can Ian help his people not live in fear? Does he ever find the truth, or does he allow his magic and addiction to be his undoing? Find out in Magic Scars.
The second installment is full of loveable and relatable characters as well. The story unfolds with no confusion and is a stronger piece of writing than the first. Readers will go through Ian’s trials and tribulations with him while feeling the feelings he has.
I highly suggest picking up the Crown of Stones series. The stories are riveting and make you want more. I cannot wait to find what happens in the third installment.

Magic Scars continues where the first book of the trilogy leaves off. The reader discovers more of the history of the crown of stones, and Ian (and his family's) part in it. Along the way, Ian continues with his struggle of controlling the uncontrollable magic running through is Erudite veins.
Throughout the book, the author continues with the fantastic descriptions of the various settings as the first book, especially of the Langorian prison and refugee camp. The blood, sex and gore, which I didn't care for in the first book, also continues. However, I am drawn in and interested in what happens to Ian and his colleagues to continue reading the series.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars
By: C. L. Schneider
5 stars
The story The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider is a fantasy book. This is the second book of The Crown of Stones trilogy. Ian Troy, the main character, has been captured by his old enemy, King Draken of Langor. He was kidnapped and the kidnapper did everything imaginable towards him, looses his magic by the drug he was given. But then he is rescued and as his body heals and rids itself of the drug he was given, he realizes that he has returned to an unfamiliar world gripped in fear. The ones he left he realizes they have been trying hard on their own. Ian is struggling to reconcile the man he has become, with the man he once was. He strives to understand the growing number of magic-scars adorning his body and he searches for the truth behind his link to the Crown of Stones. He soon uncovers secrets that have been buried for generations and finds to become the weapon the resistance needs, he must assume responsibility for his magical inheritance.
This is an amazing second book in The Crown of Stones series. The story is told from Ian Troy’s POV. As in the last book, through memories and flashbacks, Ian starts to remember what he did while he was held a prisoner and of his life before as well. He blames himself for things that he has done while in captivity. The feel of Ian’s character has changed a bit. This is due to his captivity and the drug that he was on constantly. Ian is such a likable character and I can say that some of the things that happen to him saddened me. He has many friends and acquaintances who help him and believe that any hope they have of freedom lies with him.
This is truly a fast-paced, action-packed, magical journey through a world that is in fear and needs rescuing. There are battle scenes and adult situations that include hot, love scenes.

Ian Troy is back and he is recovering from his time in captivity, since his rescue, he is numb, his jailers took everything from him, his memories, his magic, his will and his freedom, as well as the freedom of his friends. As everything slowly and painfully returns he is recruited into a desperate rebellion against the High King Draken, a long time enemy of Ian's and the one who kept him in the conditions he has just escaped.
He is tasked with the job of retrieving and repairing the Crown Of Stones, an object he has used in the past which creates the magic scars which cover his body, it is an artefact of his people which is now lost again, but which is needed to overthrow the High King. Ian is reluctant to use it again and put himself in the path of addiction his use of magic causes, but he knows he doesn't really have a choice in the matter if he is to save his scattered friends.
What he cannot understand is why his scars are multiplying even though he is not using his magic, this is where he learns about his ancestry and the secrets which have been buried in the past, but can Ian reconcile the man he was, the man he is now and the man everyone needs his to be? This is a fantasy tale of good versus evil and all the grey areas in between, as a reluctant hero faces the past and future in order to save a world which he struggles to merge with, as you follow along on his adventures and feel everything along with his in this roller-coaster of emotion you will not want to put down.

This is a well written fantasy science fi type novel with a strong protagonist. The details really draw you into the story and keep you turning pages until you are done. I loved the twists and turns, the non stop action, adventure and of course the relationship you can develop with the characters. I enjoyed this one so much I am gonna go back and read the first book as I have a feeling I missed some pretty significant moments. Absolutely worth reading!
Magic Scars is an excellent follow-up to Magic Price. The story is faster paced now that we have an established world. I love this author's writing style and descriptive word choice, though there were again some words that didn't quite fit. I'm rooting for Ian Troy, and am sad for how he's been used. Very interested to see how he deals with all that's happened and where his storyline goes in the final book.

Gripping and highly emotive
This starts off a few years after book 1. We find Ian Troy in prison and left for dead. It was only a matter of time though before someone needed him. I found the connection to Troy different this time with his magic suppressed and amnesia we get to see the person underneath.
There is so much between the pages of this book and the author interweaves the connections flawlessly and brings the reader to a world that is as beautiful as it is broken. Characters that I came to love in the first book are back and the action, dialogue and the wide range of emotions kept me glued from start to finish. The storyline just keeps getting stronger and as much as questions are being answered, more things are being discovered. The stakes are high and there is still one more book to go. Highly recommend to fantasy fans - you won’t be disappointed.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars by C.L. Schneider
This isn't the first book I've read by the author. The Crown of Stones is an amazing book. It had me hooked from the beginning and I had a hard time putting it down.
Ian has come back to find that everything is different. He has to come to terms with everyone being gone or doing something else. He finds that he's got to come to terms with his destiny. The quote I chose for Ian is: “Liel called her release complicated. Neela didn’t want to talk about it. What’s going on Malaq? Where is Elayna?”
Highly recommended for Dark Fantasy lovers.

The Crown of Stones: Magic-Scars is the second installment in The Crown of Stones trilogy and it is amazing! With the action, drama, and fantasy, there isn't anything the author left out.
Ian Troy wakes up not only wondering where he is but WHO he is. As his memory slowly seeps in with bits and pieces of what has happened, he questions what kind of person he really is. His purpose is to fix the Crown of Stones, but what he uncovers may be more than he can handle. Will he be able to successfully repair this and heal what has transpired amongst his people or will he be rendered useless?
I think C.L. Schneider created an absolutely stunning realm in this series. I cannot wait to grab the last installment of this trilogy to see where we end up. This is one of the best fantasy books I have read this year!

This was a great follow-up to Crown of Stones: Magic Price, for sure! Beginning a few years after the first book ends starts with Ian in prison with no memories. The twists and turns going throughout the story as Ian tries to finish work from the first book and regain his memory are paced really well. They make the book unpredictable but still enjoyable. Little bits of history, compassion, friendship, battles, and sneaking around keep the story moving forward. And, for those interested, some pretty intense sex scenes, as well. I look forward to reading the next one!
