finally reading the official translation....
damn I forgot how bad and heart wrenching this novel as a a whole (·•᷄‎ࡇ•᷅ )
the second part of rediscovering the truth of Gu Mang's betrayal 🥲
(YOO THE TRANSLATION TEAM REALLY POP OFF ON THIS VOLUME, every chapter make me want to jump out of the balcony 🤌)

I have this faint memory, back when I was reading it from the gdocs fan translation file, there's a mini note from meatbun at this point of the plot that said "welp guys, only 1/4 of the secrets have been out, can't wait to finisih the series" 

and I left a note at my journal "this bi**h is gonna kill me isn't she 🔪"

god this has to be the most heart-wrenching volume that i've read ro far...

The first 25 to 40 percent of this book was so boring and slow and difficult to get through with the search for the Bat Island queen and whatever, and had the most, no doubt, unnecessary and frankly bare horrible smut scene just there as a jumpscare. 
But then we were back to Chonghua and the plot began to pick up and move along and it was really interesting as near decade old secrets involving Gu Mang and the emperor are revealed. 
It was good and engaging and eager to get to the next volume as Gu Mang’s memories begin to deteriorate yet again.

This book deserves more than 5 stars.

Everything is well-written enough. The plot isn't that intriguing, but the characters are. I kept having emotional ups and downs whenever I read about one character after another. The ending is *chef's kiss*. I can't wait to read the rest of the series, even though i can't handle worse heartbreak than this
