This one confused me. I liked the premise of a “Spencer Reid” type MMC, but it ended up being much more of a superficial representation of that type of character. And as much as the first two books of the series were fun, this one felt off (to me) in terms of pacing and how it felt much more like “tell don’t show” over “show don’t tell” writing. Honestly, the supporting characters felt more alive than Sydney and Ranger.

Was this a literary work of art? No.
Was it basically a CM fanfic? Yes.
Did I love every page? Yes.
This man had me giggling in the first chapter and he was so awkward and adorable, I love it. I thought the CM references throughout were cute but not too overdone. While the character took heavy inspiration from Spencer Reid, he still was his own person and definitely distinguishable. I was beginning to slump a bit in the middle of a huge fantasy book and this has definitely pulled me back out.
