3.5 stars.
When Merlin, that sartorially-minded left-handed bookseller, is pulled into a magical map, Vivian enlists Susan's help to rescue them. Susan has cooled on the magical world, wanting to be just a human studying art, but it's not to be. Her use of her magic pulls her closer to her father, the Old Man of Coniston, and her power, and the machinations of Old World beings.
I love the relationship amongst Susan, Vivian and Merlin, and all the booksellers' magic. Vivian is the best, and Susan, though reluctant, gains a measure of control over her burgeoning power, and an agreement with her father regarding it. Merlin's clothes choices are always wonderful, and I look forward to the next installment of this fast-moving and fun series.

This was not as fun as the first one. It was quite boring at times. Took me aaaaages to finish it. There was a lot of conflict that went nowhere. The ending was a load of nothing. I do like the characters a bit and wish they were developed more outside of their magic. I was desperate to know more about merlin but, oh well. I like that Susan didn't just do as she was told, she knew what she wanted to do and who she was. Anyway I'll probably stay away from YA and NA from now on. It's a little too young for me.
Another fun adventure with Susan and the booksellers. An estate exits out of time and place and the ritual to sustain it has a brutal price.

Another enjoyable and tense read from Nix! I didn't like this one quite as much as its predecessor "The Left Handed Booksellers of London" but it was still a very fun read.
Nix's world of ancient magic shines out once again, and his world building is one of my favourite things in his books. The magic systems are fascinating, especially when it comes to the ancient sovereigns.
I also find the characters a lot of fun, particularly our charming Merlin! Though sometimes they can become a little too ridiculous, taking me out of the narrative a bit. His in depth descriptions of outfits and locations help me to picture the story in a very detailed way. But sometimes I feel like there's a bit too much detail on the outfits, and not enough on building relationships with characters further.
The pace kept me invested in the plot, with lots of action and explanation of events/ background. I found this balance well-done, giving me lots of tension, while providing academic stimulation when pertinent fantastical plot elements were talked through by characters.
All in all a fun fantasy read, if you like pacey fantastical mythological novels, with a dose of humour.

Nix is one of my go-to authors. This was another fun jaunt with the Booksellers but not quite as good as the first installment.
