I love this world and the characters within it. It carried on smoothly from the first book, with a few aspects to remind you of what happened but it didn't repeat itself too much. I also enjoyed reading it as it's set fairly close to where I live so it was very easy to picture what was happening, albeit in an alternative universe. I highly recommend this book.

This second book was just as fun! I don’t think “atmospheric” is the right word to describe it, but I loved how much I could feel the places Nix was describing. It was like I was there with the characters the whole time! I also love his pacing, we always jump right into action and because we start with some stakes, as we progress through the book the lulls don’t ever feel like a slog. Much like the last one, I feel like we’re scratching the surface of these characters and the world. I would’ve expected us to learn more about the booksellers and the politics in this book, but we only got a couple crumbs. Susan’s arc is what I’m most invested in and it feels like an afterthought or something I don’t know how long I’ll have to wait for. However, I love the fun characters, the world, and the adventure. It never feels overwhelming but still keeps me on my toes.

Nice little story, that desperately tried to stay alive despite endless pointless descriptions of outfits, cars and weapons.

This being a second book in a series took me by surprise. Nowhere on the cover does it mention it's a sequel, and I did feel I missed some information, especially at the start, seeing how I didn't read the first book. Still, we managed quite well in the end.

I really did get bored with the descriptions of the outfits, and the weapons, and the cars. I felt that after the first few chapters we stayed pretty close to Susan, seeing things as she saw them, and she didn't strike me as a girl that would care much what kind of guns everyone has and if it's a genuine something or other from some war.

Other than that, I did like the world building and some of the characters. Most of them felt very flat, but there was a lot of action to compensate. All in all, not a new favourite, but I will pick up the first one.

This was just as enjoyable as the first book. These are so easy to read, fast paced, with high stakes and great characters, and honestly just very consumable. Merlin continues to be my favorite character. Susan has to come to grips with what she’s learned about herself and decide what kind of life she wants to live. The ending is super satisfying. I’d definitely recommend these books!
