It took me over 4 1/2 years to slog my way through this one. I enjoyed Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, the Sylvie and Bruno stories were mostly enjoyable, and some of the poetry is nice, but man a lot of the other stories and things were A Trial.

The Knots were interesting because they're mathematical problems underneath, and some of the bits at the end were sort of enjoyable, but overall I don't think I'll read through the whole thing ever again.

Fanciful and sometimes interesting. Comparing it to the various movies that have been made was helpful in visualizing what was happening.

Strange, satirical, and stupendous! Granted, I probably won't read this book over and over and over again every year, but it will definitely be something that I will read to my future kiddos. There's just something so magical about the explicit weirdness of the characters and their crafty political commentary. A fun, quick read, to be sure.

As far as the story goes: love it. Obviously. Just enough crazy to keep me happy. This is one of the most beloved stories and it isn’t hard to see why. Why/how it was written is a bit…suspicious.

First off: This is such a pretty book! Seriously!
But well, about the Content.. I liked Alice's adventures in Wonderland and Throug the Lookingglass, I finished that in like two days.
Bruno and Sylvie was pretty hard to read and I had no idea what was going on for most of the time.
And that is actually a pretty good summary of the entire book: Hard to read and what's even going on?
Some of the poetry was nice, some I didn't understand at all, and most of the time I was thinking: Seriously?! Because Carroll is just so crazy. I don't know what he was thinking or if he was thinking at all while he was writing.
And then there's the math stuff. Yeah, I'm not horrible at math, but I'm not great either and I just skimmed over most of those sections because I was so confused. And so many times there wasn't even a Point in anything he said.
That was the part where I almost gave up. But I always finish books! I always do and I wouldn't let this be an exception, so I just waited a couple days, read three other books and came back to it.
Luckily by then the math section was pretty much over and I got to some weird letters and rules for games. That wasn't necessarily interesting, but at least it was easier to read.
So Overall the only Thing I actually liked was Alice and the Looks of the books and I'm very glad I'm through it!

An absolute brick of a book. The Wonderland stories didn't even take up half the book. I enjoyed more of the rest than I tbought. Sylvie and Bruno, the Snark, Phantasmagoria. There was a lot of letters and other such things that didn't quite get my actual interest.
And God. There's real math in here. Definitely wasn't about that. BUT that section with the math problems he had posed to the public was a bit delightful because he answered back to the people who sent in their answers and I had a moment of deep warmth for humans as they had names like Dinah Mite and Mad Hatter. And like. Humans have always been like that.
And less problematic shit than I feared there would be. There was some but I was bracing for more since this is all from the 1800s.
