I read this book when I was young but ive really enjoyed rereading it now. lyra is an amazing child filled with spirit and love and her adventure was fantastic. mrs Coulter and lord asrial can go to hell, specially after that last conversation. lyra deserves so so much better

Read as a part of Mariah-Nate book club, Nate’s favorite as a kid. An excellent adventure story, super fast paced, has a ton going on, very dark, really surprised I read it as young as I did the first time. 5 stars for Lyra and for Ma Costa and Ioryk. -.25 stars because ya girl can’t handle a sad ending.

Such GREAT writing!!!!!! The downside to me was the underlying message throughout what was introduced to me as a book for kids. Learning more about the author it makes sense. Maybe 4/5th grade and up and with someone to help them pick out and discuss propaganda.

I could usually guess what was coming next. It was also a little confusing with all the characters and the different kind of society that they live in.
