There were parts of this book that were so engaging, loved the queer storyline, very spicy, but having not read the synopsis before starting - the mom (even though younger) + college aged student was way too cringe at times for me. I would have LOVED to have Parker’s narrative added throughout. I think that could have redeemed this book more for me.

I was shocked by how long of a narrative was in this book! I think would have enjoyed more had it been split up into two books with a will they / won’t they cliffhanger at the end of book one.
As it is, the middle of the book dragged on at times but made for some seriously smutty interludes.
The characters won me over in ways I didn’t expect and Meryl Wilsner does such a great job of describing the internal landscapes of emotional complex women.
This book is hot af, and I say that as someone who doesn’t go for MILF storylines generally.

Loved the romance, Cassie and Erin were so cute together! But I felt that sometimes the story dragged on especially with the 'oh no! We're doing something wrong' spiel.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC.
I did it, I finally read the MILF book. I cannot believe how incredible this book was. I was hooked from the very first page. Boy does the author know how to write a first chapter that hooks you! For starters, the whole book was so spicy I was kind of shocked? Not because of the content but just because how much of it there was (not complaining, this was definitely a positive and worked in favour of the book.) Secondly, the writing was gorgeous and the characters were so real and flawed and amazing, I fell in love with all of them. This was a very realistic take on what would happen if you accidentally slept with your best friend’s mom and then dated her. There was no contrived drama or third act break ups (thank gods.) I loved the found family that Cassie has in the book, and I really related to her and the growing pains of graduating and trying to figure out what the heck to do. Erin was such a lovely character to read, the whole book she was just so considerate of Cassie and it was refreshing to see in a romance book. I definitely choked up and almost cried during the epilogue, it was so beautiful. I’m going to need five more books about Erin and Cassie please. All in all, Mistakes Were Made was the opposite of a mistake, and is going on my all time favourites shelf. 5/5 stars.

Mistakes were indeed made and that was me reading this book.
Okay maybe that’s a bit harsh but the storytelling was severely lacking a good story development and plot. I also squirmed a bit with the very clear mom issues from Cassie and the wanting to connect with her daughter from Erin which made the age gap odd. If Erin hadn’t gifted the matching pjs, I would have been okay with it.
There wasn’t a clear difference in the dual POV. They both sounded the same and it was hard to differentiate whose thoughts we were in if it weren’t for the chapter telling us in the beginning.
This was definitely not for me and that’s okay.

This book starts fast, like a rollercoaster you weren’t ready for but find exhilarating.
Cassie, a college senior, has a one night stand with a beautiful older woman, Erin. When Cassie shows up to breakfast with her friend Parker the next morning she finds Erin sitting at their table. Also known as Parker’s mom.
I loved the push and pull of Cassie and Erin’s relationship. They are drawn to each other from the first page and their chemistry never wavers. Beyond their natural attraction watching the two learn about each other, even as they fight against or for their relationship, is my favorite part of the book. Particularly the hilarity that ensues as they attempt to keep it under wraps from Erin’s daughter and Cassie’s best friends.
I don’t want to give away any spoilers but I would definitely put this book on your TBR list.
I was given this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Shoutout to Ronan for helping me finish this because I got ALMOST all the way to the end before I had to just put it down and watch the story happen by peeking out between my fingers. When they weren't otherwise occupied, since this book had SEVEN sex scenes that were insanely spicy when I wasn't biting my nails with worry they were going to get caught and have an Unbearable Amount of Drama. In the end the drama was only unbearable because it was so flat. I'm searching for a perfect medium somewhere, but I think maybe this just wasn't my cup of tea and I should go read Cleat Cute again to find the perfect sapphic book for me.
