I think this book was overall a quick and fun read. The sex scenes are well written and don’t rely on unrealistic tropes. The main character isn’t the brightest which made it frustrating as a reader on occasion.

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for an advanced copy of Mistakes Were Made in exchange for my honest review.

Mistakes Were Made follows the story of Cassie and Erin, who meet each other for the first time in a bar and have a quickie in Erin's rental vehicle. But this story is so much more than that. Cassie, a woman who is about to graduate with dreams of working in aero or astro engineering (she's undecided), meets Erin, a doctor. But Erin is so much more than just a doctor; she's also her best friend's mom.

Let's start with what I liked about this novel.

First, the subject matter. Put two people together who think a one night stand is all they'll have and I'm there for it. This plot attracted me towards the book in the first place, especially when a best friend's parent is involved. Throw in a sprinkle of age gap, MILFs, and hilarious side characters and this was a no brainer read for me. The characters - talking about Erin and Cassie, specifically here - had such a distinct character voice, it was easy to differentiate who was who. I usually prefer to read books in first person, because I feel as though I can get into the mind of the characters better, but by the end of Mistakes Were Made, I was invested in Erin and Cassie's relationship and happy to imagine where they were going in the future. (That epilogue though! It was everything!)

I do wish that Parker, Erin, and Cassie had communicated with each other way earlier in the book. That's just a personal preference because I hate miscommunication and everything could have been avoided sooner. With Erin, it made more sense. She was still repairing her relationship with her daughter and I'm sure that fragility would have me pausing too. But open and honest communication is always better than hiding or lying.

I appreciated all the smut scenes in this book. They were all different and the descriptions were well done! I don't often read a lot of sapphic books that go into detail but I'm a woman who loves women (and men!) and I appreciate seeing myself represented on the page. More than that, the romance was able to develop. Because Erin and Cassie were long distance for the majority of this book, their relationship was able to come into itself in interesting ways and I appreciated that. (What would we do without FaceTime and sexting, am I right?)

Overall, I enjoyed this book and if you're looking for an FF romance to add to your TBR, this is one that should definitely be on there!

getting feelings after fucking this woman once and barely having a full conversation w her??? and no foreplay half the time?? still a fun read tho

4.5 stars

Cassie hooks up with Erin, a hot M.I.L.F. she met at a bar during family weekend at her college. Both Cassie and Erin are surprised to find out the next morning that Cassie is best friends with Erin’s college-age daughter, Parker, who Erin is visiting for the weekend. Cassie and Erin struggle between their secret hot and heavy feelings for one another and what is “right” for themselves and for Parker. Will they be able to ignore their physical attraction and history and move on for Parker’s sake or will the secrets begin to pile up against their better judgment?

Okay guys, I was obsessed with this one and devoured it in a few days even though it was a whooping 12 hours on audio. The main plot twist happens within the first 10% of this book… so you’re left wondering what else could possibly take up the rest of the 11.5 hours, but there is SO MUCH MORE in store for Cassie and Erin. I really enjoyed the alternating POVs between them and the dual narrators. The cover is amazing and the punny banter is EVERYTHING. And man, talk about STEAMY sex scenes… quite literally

In all actuality I finished this book in 2 days I became so enthralled in it. I need more

I want to give this a solid 4.5. I could see this becoming a great movie with Reneé Rapp as Cassie. Oh it would be so good.
