Great book to start challenging our own “shoulds” in life.
I've had to sit and parse through my feelings on this book because on one hand, I really enjoyed the story whenever the characters were together on page but on the other, apparently friend's parent is a difficult trope for me because of trust between the characters. (Though I will say I liked how it was handled in this book.)
I still don't have a lot to say definitively but the book is definitely worth the read and filled with heat and fun times!
(I was given an ARC for an honest review.)

Meryl Wilsner is my favorite sapphic romance author. I've now read all 3 of their books and enjoyed them all. I'm not really into age-gap thropes but Mistakes Were Made was written so well with great, complex and multilayered characters that I cannot not like it.
My only issue with the book is that Erin seemed to have a very established medical career by fourty (despite having a kid at 20) and she seemed to have a lot of money. Are doctors (who don't seem to work 12h days) in late 30s/early 40s really making that much money in a hospital? Or did she have family money?
I originally read the book as an ebook and revisited it later as an audiobook. Both were enjoyable experiences.

yes, mistakes were made……. i, once again, jumped right into a book without reading the synopsis first because i’ve enjoyed this author before and got upset when it turned out this story was about a college girl fucking her best friend’s mom……… i do regret it thanks for asking.
(and then the worst thing is that, however messed up that "plot" was, this book was actually almost good? like the characters were great (no cassie not you tho sweetie), meryl wilsner’s writing is always on point and aside from the main couple being so fucked up other characters and relationship dynamics were really moving??????)
anyways i won’t be rating it.

This book was like 75% sex and tbh, I'm not mad at it lol

A straightforward story, a good book to kill time without any complications. Characters are relatable and has good situational comedy...
Well this book was a spicy delight. When college senior Cassie hooks up with an older woman after a few drinks at the bar she is shocked to discover that the mysterious Erin is introduced to her the next morning as the mother of her friend Parker. The pair are still fiercely attracted to each other so when Parker invites Cassie home with her, Cassie and Erin continue their secret relationship.
I am not usually one for age gap, and this one was quite a large age gap (22 and 38), but the book was just so well written that it worked. I really liked both Erin and Cassie. Each had their own issues they were working through, but they brought out the best in each other. I liked that while the book starts with a super steamy scene, we still got a lot of relationship development over time between the pair. I also loved all the side characters and would very happily read a book about Parker or Acacia.
I listened to about 80% of the book with a few chapters hear and there read. I really enjoyed both Quinn Riley and Stephanie Németh-Parker as narrators. Both gave great performances and brought the characters to life.
Thank you to NetGalley, St. Martin’s Press, and MacMillan Audio for the ARC and ALC in exchange for an honest review.

Despite the low stakes and unrealistic fallout, this was an extremely fun and heartwarming read. The dialogue had me cackling and the love story had me swooning. I really enjoyed the themes of found family and discarding the expectations of others to find your own joy. I look forward to reading more from Wilsner.
