Some stories are devastating, some uplifting, and some waver between both. All are excellently written. I only didn’t care for the style of the last one, but I chalk that up to personal preference.

My bookclub gave this a try as we hadn't done a short stories book yet. I was the only one of the seven of us to push through and actually finish. The title and description of this book are very misleading. Every story is about the sexual, physical or mental abuse of a weak woman, with the exception of one. It was an upsetting read, and I can't find the beauty in it. Glad I got it from the library and didn't spend any money on it.

Most of the stories in this collection are not for the faint of heart, but they are oh so worth it. I had only read Roxane Gay’s nonfiction up to this point. Now I can say from personal experience that she is an amazing writer all around. These stories are strange, haunting, powerful, and will stay with you long after you finish reading.

God this book was depressing.

It is beautifully written and the stories are captivating. But the themes were relentless and towards the end became a bit monotonous.

Women were either being punished or punishing themselves.

Twas decent. I liked some of the stories more than others as to be expected. I think each story had their own flow. I think Id pick it up again later in life and read it again. I feel like I don't have anything specific to say for this review omg

I wouldn't recommend this read!

It's a hard read! Please beware of a trigger warning! It's very sad and can be overwhelming! It took me a while to finish!

I wouldn't read this again. At least, not soon! I wouldn't say I enjoyed this read.

This collection reminded me why I've always loved short stories so much! (And also why women are the best and always will be! Thanks!)
