I think it's a well written book, but I just couldn't get into it. I won it in a giveaway and I appreciate that!

Multi-generational family drama to perfection! The relationship dynamics between the women in this novel are full of love and angst, and their journey towards acceptance envelops the reader as they travel through their story. Beautiful writing, lots of heart, I loved it!

This was a great book, I think the storytelling and writing is wonderful. I enjoy magical realism and I liked seeing how the author used it to convey the generational trauma within the Olivares's women.
The novel is written under three perspectives Olvido, Angustias, and Felicitas. Grandmother, mother, and daughter. Seeing how they each viewed their family was really interesting because despite having different upbringings. There's a sense of grief that they all feel towards one another.
I wish this book had a better wrapped up ending between the women, I feel like we were robbed from what could've been an emotionally charged scene between all of them but that felt lackluster because if it's pacing.
I enjoyed a lot of the dialogue between Olvido and Felicitas. It reminded me of some of conversations I've had with my own grandmother. It's clear that Olvido and Felicitas do have a complex relationship, I wish that Olvido would've gotten to know her granddaughter much better but alas it is what it is.
This is a really good book to check out if you enjoy magical realism and get a unique perspective of what generational trauma can look like.

Moderate: Death, Death of parent
Multigenerational story about women, magical realism and themes of death?? Sounds like it was made for me but I just couldn't get myself excited to read this book for some reason. Might be worth picking up again another time sometime later.

So, My Mother Cursed My Name by Anamely Salgado Reyes came highly recommended, and a lot of people seem to really love it—but for me? It was just okay. Now, don’t get me wrong, the writing is top-notch, and the story itself is solid, but I just couldn’t fully connect with it for some reason. That being said, I’m definitely not trying to knock the book because I really think it’s one of those reads where you’ve got to check it out for yourself and decide.
Personally, I need a book to hook me in fast and take me on a ride, so slower pacing or a story that takes its time doesn’t always work for me. But I can totally see a lot of readers falling in love with this one. It just didn’t do it for me.
Thank you to NetGalley and Atria Books for an advanced readers copy in exchange for an honest and thoughtful review.

As a Mexican daughter and mother this book hits home. The characters are described beautifully with their full duality being loveable but also hitting your last nerve. I would read it again and again
