Oh boy, I really did not enjoy this as much as I thought I would.
This is an immaculately written book, however the main character is the most atrocious, unlikable, despicable piece of shit I've encountered until now.

But don't get me wrong: it makes perfect sense. This is a sick, perverted man, and he shouldn't be portrayed any other way.
I really did not enjoy reading about his feelings, his thoughts or anything he had to say, I couldn't feel even a tiny bit of sympathy for this character and by the 50-60% mark I was just tired of Humbert but kept going just because this is such a fascinating exercise in storytelling.
Having finished it, I can say this is a book I don't want to read ever again but I'm happy I did.

Vile. Rare is the day I’d consider banning a book but after getting part way through this, I reckon I might actually want to see it vanish from existence.

Didn’t finish (obviously) and never intend to.
