Ugh, I wanted to be a fan, but I just wasn't. The author's style is just awful in my opinion, its like he sat there with a thesaurus and just threw in random words. So much French when the book is in English and so many just completely made up words. The story really wasn't that fascinating and I did not find it very controversial. I was bored for most of the book and the ending was pretty disappointing. I really wanted to like it but I just didn't. Humbert was a semi-interesting character and so was "Lolita," and I found him disgusting but also just kind of pathetic.
Gross. I’m sure someone could explain why this is important to the literary canon, but this book just emphasizes everything wrong with men.

i’m just rlly conflicted, man. i don’t even know. the development of this book was just so sickening & i felt like the second half got so grueling to get thru bc reading thru humbert humberts point of view IS grueling! idk. very upset n annoyed but also like. happy it’s over. fuck this book but i do understand a lot of it; i was just very confused by nabokov’s lack of a taught moral & the way it’s so centered around how he moved to america and was an american author now. i do now—vaguely—understand the concept of not necessarily him teaching thru the novel: it’s just a novel. there’s no moral being taught, it just exists. i guess that also allows the readers’ interpretations surrounding a taboo topic. all i know though, humbert humbert is vile & his final words to lolita doesnt mean much to me. he’s always been a coward and he’s just letting go because she’s no longer the kid he can control. that’s how it feels to me; his clinging to watching children and being with age appropriate women who mildly resembled prepubescent girls makes that evident to me.

This was a deeply distressing book to read because it is about child abuse. It's the story of a man who tries to fully possess another person and ultimately fails.
I respect this novel for its lyrical language, vivid inner monologue and exploration of a taboo subject.
It's not a pleasant novel and I really need to learn my lesson and read something cheerful for a change.

لأنها مبتذلة، وشاذة، وحقيقية.. اكتسبت شهرة واسعة في العالم، لا أجد تفسيراً غير هذا !!! أشعر أنني خُدعت، أعتقدت أنها قصة حب بريئة بين شخصين يعوق اكتمالها تباعد العمر. قرأت شيء من هذا القبيل في أحد المواقع. ومع ذلك أريد أن أوضح إنني لست من عشاق القصص والروايات الرومانسية لكني اخترت هذه لمعرفة التبعات التي ستؤول إليها القصة بسبب هذا العائق. كان تخميني خاطئ بالطبع، لم تكن الرواية كذلك بل تخطت الرومانسية للقرف. لم أتوقع أن تقع بين يدي رواية كهذه التي خرقت كل الخطوط والمبادئ والأعراف الإنسانية والدينية. أصابتني بالغثيان حيناً وأرعبتني حيناً آخر من شدة الإجرام في هذه الرواية.
بإختصار تحكي قصة شاذ جنسي يحب الفتيات الصغيرات عموماً. يؤثر هذا الحيوان الطاعن في السن أن يشبع رغباته الجنسية مع طفلة في العاشرة من عمرها مثلاً على إمرأة ناضجة.
ما يؤسفني حقاً هو استمرار نوع هذا المريض النفسي وعدم انقطاعه من مجتمعاتنا، فنجد أخبارهم تملأ الصحف؛ هذا هتك عرض طفلة ما، والآخر يتحرش بإبنته وغيرها من القصص التي يشيب لها شعر الرأس.
أنهيتها بصعوبة بالغة لما فيها من لحظات باعثة للإشمئزاز والإنحطاط الخُلقي.
وللتذكير: أنصح كل أم وأب له طفلـ/ ـة أن يوفر لهم سبل الحماية الممكنة تفادياً لحالات التحرش من الغرباء، ومن الخطر الكامن الأشد ضرراً من الغرباء وهم الأقرباء.
حمى الله أبناء المسلمين والمسلمات من أي مكروه.
