This is a somewhat unique Stephen King because it is illustrated. It’s a short book that covers a year of a werewolf terrorizing the town.

In true Stephen Ming fashion, no one is safe—no animals, not children.

It was a quick read allowed me to get a small Stephen King fix.

definitely would not have made it through this one without good ol’ Bernie Wrightson’s illustrations. A scant short story at best, it’s more of a scene by scene outline of a year in the life of a town being terrorized by a werewolf that must not be suffered to live. Also it’s weirdly disparaging of its hero’s paraplegic state, although I’m sure King and his champions will assert that this was Entirely Necessarily The Point. Sure, it was. Sometimes, we just gotta stand up to our bullies and tell’em they should go off themselves for something they can’t help, especially if there’s something we can’t help. Or wait. No, I’m sorry, but did someone miss some point here? Oh, sure.

Unfortunately, this was another King book I don't understand the hype around. Sure, it was well written. But the plot was dull and basic. And the language was misogynistic and abelist.

Let it be known that I have never watched Silver Bullet, which is based on this book, so I have no thoughts on the film or how it's shaped werewolf storytelling. All I know is that in 2025, this book by itself is not it for me.
