surprisingly I loved this book! the main trope is one I generally really hate, (star crossed lovers/reincarnation) but for some reason this worked for me. immediately bought the 2nd book in the dualogy.

What a fantastic debut novel! The writing is beautiful and real. A star crossed lovers romantic fantasy with a unique blending of a modern world with various folklore that really immersed me into the world. There is a great mystery unfolding and great side characters that had me cackling - baba yaga! The raw pain banter, angst and tension between the MCs is fantastic and we always love a queer normative world with a fierce bi FMC. The mental health rep is also really well done. I've jumped right into book 2!

This book was so magical, unique, and beautiful. And so easy to get sucked in to. This is what I want from an Adult Fantasy Romance!!
I'm not usually a fan of urban fantasy, but I really loved how it started very real-world and then you get immersed in the fantasy along with the FMC.
The romance was a slow burn with eventual spice (1/5 🌶) Very romantic, but the cliffhanger will definitely leaving you aching.
I'd recommend this for literally anyone, but specifically fans of Holly Black, and A Fate of Wrath and Flame. Or if you find yourself wanting more out of the fantasy romance genre lately!

The amount of twists in this book kept me hooked the entire time and I couldn’t wait to finish but didn’t want it to end. Romance Fantasy based in Philadelphia with a 30 year old bi journalist woman main character and an immortal king is exactly what readers need.
