- just did not like this book at all. dreaded it every time i had to pick it up and read it again. literally only picked up for me in the last 20 pages but maybe i was just happy that it was almost over. if vonnegut is a defining american author then boy oh boy the legacy of american literature is in trouble
- barely had a cohesive plot, and whatever plot it did have was so absurdly unentertaining. not a single one of the characters was likable except MAYBE bokonon. i was often repulsed and/or very bored by how vonnegut wrote mona, i don’t understand how reviews find her a compelling aspect of the book
- the only saving grace in all this were the excerpts from the book of bokonon and the RARE parts where it was a little funny. upon reading reviews i am now also somewhat aware of what this was meant to be satirizing, and i’ll give it the benefit of the doubt, maybe this would’ve been punchier and more relevant when it first came out

This was probably a 3.5 star read for me. A quick and funny read where the author makes an in-depth commentary about the dangers of scientific advancement when combined with human stupidity. Not my usual vibe but I did enjoy it. Vonnegut really made me think. If everyone lives their life for the purpose of finding happiness in various ways regardless of the effect of their actions, is this truly a moral way to live? Thanks for the book rec Mark!
