Maybe I would have liked it a couple of years ago but it wasn‘t for me right now. I found it extremly frustrating that the protagonist didn‘t really talk to the people around her - so many problems and doubts and bad feelings could be cleared up if she just communicated.

I really enjoyed the brutal honesty that came through the narrative voice of Tori, our FMC. She’s living off the success of her internationally best-selling book but is delaying writing a sequel as she enters her thirties. I loved the undercurrent of feminism and gender equality issues which always underline Holly Bourne’s books and greatly appreciated the toxicity of some of Tori’s thoughts as she navigates her life. She is not perfect. She is actually really fucking flawed. My first adult book from Holly Bourne and not my last. Heavy weighting however on the POV of a middle-classed, white, heterosexual woman = just to keep that in mind. Didn’t find the book very diverse.

This book was excellent, but so hard to read at times, as the main character was so relatable. The portrayal of her inner thoughts, self-doubt and emotional struggles made me reflect on my own not dissimilar thoughts, but from a different perspective. I found myself outraged or sad at thoughts she had, that I have never even questioned when they're in my own brain. This book made me really think and reflect on my life and relationships and my own self talk, and was so engaging I kept coming back to it even though it triggered me at times. Great read.

4.5

There better be a book two.

A powerful story about a horrible, emotionally abusive relationship. It's hard to walk away from a relationship, really hard. But sometimes you have to do it no matter how scary life could be afterwards. My heart breaks for Tori.

Holly is brilliant with her feminist writing. I was swept along, even hating Tori to begin with, all the social media moments had me rolling my eyes.

Very good. Very sweary sweary. Very heart-breaking. Loved the photos and the mental impact and thoughts of life in your thirties when everyone is getting married and having children and you're not.

I need a happy ending Holly okay? Write Tori's happy ending. (Yes I've turned into a Tori-fan!).
