I would give ANYTHING for an ARC of this book! I cannot wait!

Update 11/20/2013:
AMAZING, UHHH FRICKIN AZING. Was sure worth the wait! :)
Max & Art, revenge, and the silly chit Penelope.

Mistaken identity, mistress to wife, love you enough to ruin my life, I don’t deserve love because I ruin things.
Insanity, described rape, insinuated rape, insane asylum, murder of parents.

I frickin' loved the first half of the book and how Artemis ensnared the Duke's attention, riled him up, and gained his reluctant admiration so effortlessly but by the mid-point after they'd had sex, my enjoyment plummeted and I'm finding it hard to push through. I don't like the mistress trope and hate when the H wants the h really badly but is unwilling to make sacrifices to have her - obviously I know it's a HEA and he must change his mind at some point but meh, it doesn't mean I like him anymore. He says such cute and romantic things in the beginning about how a Goddess shouldn't cry, she shouldn't be in the position she's in (basically a slave to Penelope's every whim) and yet a Goddess apparently deserves no better than to be his side-chick. He puts her on a pedestal and doesn't even call her by her real name during sex. I'll try to plod through it but my enthusiasm and love of this book took a nosedive.

some word choices made by the author that i can't justify giving this book anything higher than a 4. overall great story and i do love it

Maximus is seeking to avenge his parent's death while Artemis is seeking a way to free her brother from wrongful imprisonment in an insane asylum. Maximus is legitimately just a 18th century batman. Dude has his own bat cave, a father figure butler, and he's wealthier than sin and cold as ice. He has absolutely no respect for Artemis and Artemis deserves way better than him in every way possible.

First time in recent memory I've read a romance novel where I hope the couple get a divorce someday or he ends up dying so she can have his money but be rid of his overbearing ass.

This was entirely too short!

Eighteenth century Batman story

Ahhhhh... I raced through this one. Started it late last night, got to about 75% and realised it was 2am and that I should probably go to bed (was so difficult to force myself to put it down!) and finished it this evening.

Usually I'm all about the heroes but I really did love the heroine in this one.

There were a few bits that I felt went a little too far, or there was a bit too much of, but it was a very entertaining read and I really enjoyed it.

This was such a satisfying read! Artemis, a lady who has certainly come down in the world due to the death of her parents and incarceration of her brother, has taken a position as companion to her simpering cousin, Phoebe. As Phoebe tries to capture Maximus, the Duke of Wakefield, as her husband, Artemis finds that she wants the Duke for herself. Add to that that the Duke of Wakefield moonlights as the mysterious Ghost of St. Giles *swoon* saving those in danger in a disreputable part of London and we have a winner!

I loved the tension between Artemis and Maximus. The knowledge that Maximus must do his duty and marry a "suitable" woman for the dukedom allows the reader to see into the male lead's mind, an aspect that a lot of writers leave out. The only reason this book lost a star for me was that Artemis attempted to blackmail Maximus. That seems so beneath her and unlike her character that it really killed that part of the story for me.
