This book is so beautiful. It explore grief and loss and moving on and acceptance, while retaining a dark, witty almost satirical undertone. It’s a little confusing but I’m sure it’s a book I will read again and again!

I've not read Ted Hughes' Crow, so I think I maybe missing something but the Crow's perspective didn't work for me. There are some wonderful observations on grief and I loved the boys and Gran. I just need to read Crow and then revisit this book.
So fluid, reverberant and unusual.
I adored this book. I read it in one sitting in a restaurant then came home and read it again. Max so cleverly makes you dislike the Crow yet sense his necessity. I laughed out loud and also felt my heart sink. What a book.

stunningly, beautifully written. absurd, incomprehensible, flitting from poetry to prose and back again, and everything i wanted it to be.
