Poetic, melancholic, distilled beauty.
Heartbreaking in the best way possible. It made me cry and I won't deny it.

Thoughtful and poetic, I didn't expect to be so actively seeking meditations on grief this year, but the process of looking and finding has been valuable.

This was the most beautifully written and simultaneously heart breaking thing I have read in a very long time. I could not set it down.  I read it and then listened to the audiobook and both were incredible experiences.

Grief is the thing with feathers is a short book about a dad and his two kids navigating the loss of their wife/mother, with the addition of a crow that showed up to help them live with their grief until he's no longer needed.
At first I was rather confused and barely understood what's going on, and that feeling followed me until the end. It felt very impersonal, just writing as if it's based on a collection of experiences of what grief is and as a result I could not for the life of me connect with the characters, or feel for them especially considering that I'm reading about someone's most painful feelings and getting insight on their thoughts and behaviors.
This book is loved by many but unfortunately it's not for me
