I didn't like it alot. I will read the ending just to know what happens. I think the reason I didnt enjoy it was that the main character was really conceited. I dont like that in my book characters.

Was hoping to like this as the tvshow is enjoyable but maybe I am little too old for this. It is a lot teenage drama and there is not just enough something to make me want to read next book.

Elena is the queen bee of her school, gorgeous, rich and talented. So, naturally, when dark, handsome Stefan joins her class, she assumes he will fall under her spell. She does not expect his initial resistance. Even less does she expect the truth- that Stefan is a vampire who is haunted by the memory of his love from centuries ago. His love who looks mysteriously like Elena. To further complicate things, Stefan’s evil brother has also noticed Elena, and between the two, Elena becomes drawn into a world dark, frightful and spine-tinglely romantic.

Now That’s Unfortunate: A spoiled brat of a protagonist whose actions are motivated more by her sense of entitlement than anything else.

Het boek is mooi geschreven dit is het eerste deel van een series. Het leest zeer vlot in dit boek zitten er 2 delen. Dit boek is ook verfilmd waarbij er gelijkenissen zijn maar ook grotere verschillen.

Honestly, having watched the show first, I kinda like the premise of the show better. I thought they ironed out some of the kinks from the books.

I knew going in that the storyline of the books was different from the tv show. I'm up to date on the tv show and obsessed! I think I may have to start reading the books after the tv shows because it probably would've driven me nuts, much like Southern Vampire Mystery/True Blood did.

I'm not sure what to really say about the books - they are an easy read. I flew through this set of two-in-one. I think Elena is a little whinier in the books and self-centered. Bonnie is way cooler - she's much more chill without being super serious. Stefan is a little more likeable, but Damon...could he get any better?! I mean he is just as amazing as Ian Somerhalder portrays him to be on tv.

Weird storyline could have been really good if they would have delved into it more instead of focusing on Damon and Stefan so much

I knew when the Vampire Diaries came to TV that it as based on a book series. Generally I try to read books before I watch a TV show/movie, but do to time and other constraints, I decided to check out the television show without reading the books first, in great part due to the casting. I will say that I do really enjoy the television show and I knew that changes had been made from the books to fit the television format, but I decided it was time to check out the books and see where it all started.

The world of young adult literature is vast and full of many wonderful choices. Many of these are of a paranormal/sci fi genre, vampires filling a very large percentage of these books. Each one has a different take on vampire history/lore. All of that is fine, as long as the characters are interesting, the plot is engaging, and the pace of the story moves along.

It took a few pages for me to push the images of the television show out of my mind and just let the book create the characters and let the story flow. Even after doing this, I found these two books to be very lacking. The characters were very 2 dimensional, very predictable, and not all that interesting. I found the story to lag as there was a great deal of filler material. It almost seemed like the author wanted to hit word quote/target number of pages. I think these two books would have been better either as short stories, or one book. I found myself skimming over multiple sections of these two books.

I will probably check out more books in this series over time, as I have down time in my to read pile, but they are not books I am rushing to get the one.
