It’s not exactly like the show which I figured but it’s still a good read. If you are looking for the exact storyline of the show then this is not the book for you.

I've tried to read this book twice and both times I've stopped at the exact same part and put it down.
I am in love with the show so I thought perhaps the books would be good. I was wrong. For one, I find the main character is not at all likeable, and that she and Stefan just fall in love right away and it is very anticlimatic. I don't find it interesting at all.
Then again, I have never finished the book (which is something I rarely do -- I always have to finish) so maybe my opinion is a little skewed. It might be one of those things where you need to read the whole story in order to truly, you know, "understand" or "grasp the concept." Who knows.
I stopped reading at the part where the little dog died both times, because I love animals and I get sad. However, if the book had interested me at all, I would have continued reading despite of that. I do understand that it's a fictional dog.

Writing: fine; characters: horrendous; plot: eh. The characters in this book fell very flat for me; even the 'passionate' romance between two major individuals didn't really seem to have much behind it, other than she was popular and wanted to be with the new, hot guy in school... and his reason for liking her, well, I won't give it away, but it's only mildly better. This author's true calling is ending her books on cliff-hangers - other than that, even the fantastical elements of the story (vampires, supernatural abilities, etc) cannot really grab you because they are so poorly explained. Read with low expectations and that might help the overall effect.

LOVED THE BOOK!
this is more original than twilight, right? since it was published FIRST?
oh yeah.
so. in short i love damon.
yes he may be utterly sadistic but somehow i knew he was just torn because he thought stefan killed their mom. then the bad thing continued with the rivalry over katherine. so yeah. he's just torn. if only anyone would listen to him... (i would LOL)

okay2. back to reality
i love elena, prefer her than bella. she's stronger and doesn't really rely TOO much on stefan, which is good. stefan himself, is attractive in some kind of way.

overall, enjoyed this book. the writing style is also unique and quirky, not too hard but not too childish anyway.

5 STARS!:D

I am absolutely positively in love with Vampire Diaries!! Funny thing is..... I love the show a whole lot more than I liked the book. The show is amazing!! I watched the entire first season and then I finally read the first 2 books. They were really good, but the characters and the events are extremely different than those in the show. In the book Elena starts out really snobish and just ugh. Stefan is not as brooding and ugh as he is in the book. Damon...OMG!! Damon is sooo different, but still incredibly hot. In the book Katherine isn't even ALIVE!! So... Yeah... It's completely different, but I still like the books and really Love the show!! Can't wait for Season 2 in September!!!
