I chose to read this book as I am pretty much addicted to the TV adaptaion based on these novels. However, I was disappointed. Standing alone, this book is a good teen novel of forbidden romance and high school scandals with some excitment and melodrama thrown in for good measure. But, if you're reading this book to keep up to date with the programme, I wouldn't bother. It's totally different. I think the only thing they actually used in the adaptation was the names and they still missed some of those out! That said, the second story is better than the first in this two story book. It seems they may get better as they progress, so I shall give the second volume a try at a later date.

I read a grand total of 10 pages before I realize this one is best left in the fond memories of the past.

After watching the show many times I decided it was time to read the books. My review isn’t a comparison of the show to the book (even though they are different) but as a fan of the show now reading the book, despite the differences I’m still enjoying myself being in this universe again.

Elena did annoy me a bit throughout this read but I hope that leads to some good character development later on. I feel like her popular it girl persona really shown through.

This book also gave us multiple pov (mainly focusing on 2 but sprinkled in others here & there) which I also enjoyed. Being able to see what other characters were thinking/feeling.

I think this was a good intro to the series, it sets up the universe, along with character motivations & has an ending that’s to die for.
