The first book was okay- the 2nd book was better though. If you can get through the first one (which isn't that bad) it is worth it to get to the second. A total teeny bopper book. I loved it when I was a teen, and I still like it.

Keeping in mind that this book was originally written and published in the 90s, it's not bad. It's well written... but that's all that is really going for it. Elena is a little one-dimensional, however I can believe that there are seventeen year olds like that in the world. Between her friends: Bonnie is a lot more developed than Meredith. Caroline is too typical of a classic high school mean girl--90s though. I wish there was more of a Heather's vibe with Caroline. Honestly, my favorite character in the whole book ended up being Matt. Good, all-around-great-guy, Matt.

I'm not even going to talk about the pacing of this book because, as well written as it is to keep me going to get through two books (basically combined into one), I cannot get behind the fact that this all happened within two months. I do enjoy how well the flow into each other.

One thing I am very glad to say is that I was able to separate the book from the television show. Granted, I am very in love with how well they grew those characters in the show.

Although I have to admit, my favorite part in the book(s) is when Elena decided to use Margaret's new kitty against Damon.

I went in hoping for another juicy teen vampire book, but was a bit disappointed. I wasn't as interested in the characters or drawn into the story until 3/4 of the way through the book. It got more interesting towards the end though, and I do plan to read the second book.

i thought it was great, however it’s nothing like the series. at first i was a bit unsure weather i liked it but when i got into it i enjoyed it more and more. because it’s not like the series there is still the feeling of wanting to know what happens next

I couldn't finish this book. I tried just for lawls, but I couldn't go through with it. My impression was this:

"I'm a pretty girl, ooo, let me look at myself in the mirror. Everybody loves me, all the boys want me. Oh, new guy. He doesn't want me, I have to have him. New toy. Skip five pages, I'm suddenly in love. Ooo, and he has a pretty brother."

Could not do it.
