I recently got pulled back into my love for the TVD tv show, and I figured I'd give the books another shot. I read the first two books a few years ago but had forgotten most of them, so I reread them. I continue to be amused by the books description of Katherine as innocent and fragile, contrasted with the tigress-like Elena. I have some theories about why the show switched these characteristics (most of them related to sexism and appropriate roles for women). Unfortunately, I still enjoy the tv show more than the books, I think most of the characters in the books are insufferable (and what's with the high school named after Robert E. Lee? really?? Glad they changed that).
All that being said, I enjoyed the books more on this read-through. I think the audiobook reader wasn't for me, but reading it on my own was gripping. I hate Damon even more in the books, and I'm worried to see what happens now that Elena has been turned. It's interesting how quickly everything is happening, she's hardly been with Stefan a month.

It was just "okay" in my opinion. I think it was well-written as far as the language, but I think the characters are what made the story fall flat for me. They're too one-dimensional, and frankly, Elena is just annoying. She's not the kind of character you root for. She's either busy admiring her own reflection or pining pathetically over Stefan. I was really looking forward to the new televsion series. I still hope that it's somehow better than the book. Stranger things have happened...

So I started reading this book only AFTER I had began to like the tv. And let me tell you, the show is so much better.
The bok angered me because I think Elena jumped into things with Stefan way to fast. Also, the book and the tv show were almost completely differnet stories. Nothing was the same except maybe a few of the character's name. (Elena, Damon, Stefen, Bonnie, etc. etc.)
I felt that the book was rushed and could have unfolded in a more lethargic way. I didn't understand how the book and tv show could have so many inconsistancies.
I like the plot that the tv show rolled out, rather than this actual book. Perhaps if I would've read the book first, I would have had different thoughts, but that's not the case.
I mean:
Tyler SMALLwood? Not Lockwood?
FELL'S CHRUCH? Not Mystic Falls?
Vickie still being alive?
Aunt Judith? What about Aunt Jenna?
Caroline and Elena not being friends?
Elena being blond and pale?
OH! and the biggest one of all--- Elena's four year old sister Margaret, instead of Jeremy?

I really didn't like this book at all.

Longest eye roll of my life!

2015 Reading Challenge: Book turned into a Tv Programme

Fell in love with the Tv Show first and knew about the differences, so I was a bit sceptical.

But I was pleasantly surprised! They are completely different, so you have to think of them as separate!
Darker and more romantic then the show but would highly recommend it!
