I was excited to get into a spicy series, but this book just didn't do it for me. I feel it was too predictable and already done before. I did not end up picking up any other books in the series.
Things I liked:
- The story and the mafia world was really full and interesting.
- Great cast of supporting characters.
- The bond between Kat and Dante was really strong. I enjoyed seeing them work through things together.
Things I didn’t like:
- It took me a while to warm up to Dante. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing but the more that was revealed about him, the more I softened. He was a real asshole in the beginning.
- The tension and angst between Kat and Dante isn’t my favorite. I was glad that cooled off eventually but still a lot of arguing.
Y'all, I promise I normally read books I LIKE but I had to read this one for a class and...well...at least Sophia and Joey were great.
I wanted to throw my laptop at every instance of Kat losing her spine (and, in her words, 100 IQ points) around Dante's smokin' hot mafia bod that apparently also made her commit to sex acts she was traumatized by, but also upon realizing Anya was wearing a collar and apparently still made to do BDSM activities for Lorenzo while in the midst of cancer. Nope, nope, nope. Again, I want to love and embrace this genre with open arms, but...this wasn't for me. It might work for you, but it didn't for me.

Mafia romance and boring are *never* used in the same sentence, but alas. Meet Dante. There was quite literally no character or world building and instead half of the book is spent on unamusing smut scenes. I probably should have DNF’d, but Joey & Maximo intrigue me and they are the focus of book 2 (and I’m a sucker for a brother’s best friend moment). Ugh. Don’t let me down again Sadie.
Update: I will not be continuing this series after reading similarl complaints about the other books.
