A dreamlike, mysterious tale of a picnicking trip that goes south when 3 boarding school girls and their mathematics teacher go missing on Hanging Rock. Lindsay does a great job describing the scenery of the Australian landscape, a character of its own right, and telling the tale through various characters tied to the mystery. A classic that should be better known.

It was a herculean effort to finish this damn thing and I didn't even get any answers in the end. But I guess that's the point because LiTeRaTuRe smh

A little dreamy, a little supernaturally infused, a little gothic, this mystery set in Australia circa 1900 concerns three girls and a governess who disappear on a picnic outing from a remote girls’ schools. The effect of their disappearance ripples outwards from the placid beginnings to a truly grotesque finale.

This swung wildly between near perfection and being just okay. There was so much tension and build up and then...it just ends. Which on one hand is frustrating, on the other it was true to life. We dont always get to know what happened. Some mysteries stay mysteries. The language was lovely and lush.

Would read again, loved how academia it felt, also kinda witchy. Chapter 16 had a very jarring scene I did not except. Also I’m excited to watch the TV show version

OOoooohhhh spooky!!! so creepy, I love that it’s set in Australia, and that the setting is so picturesque but the story is so scary!! I love the image of the pattern of the Hanging Rock spreading across the people who were affected by it. My favourite characters were Madamoiselle and Sara. I read this so fast, but the pace wasn’t always fast, which I liked - it wasn’t clear which mystery would be solved  And in the end there are lots of unsolved mysteries. Obviously, where did the 3 girls go?
Who killed Sara?
What happened to Albert and Mike (who in my opinion were in love with each other) just really good, and beautifully written

Gosh this book was thrilling! Gripping, the language used certainly resonated with me, I could imagine how hot it was. I had never read this before and thoroughly enjoyed it.
