Dragon Age: Magekiller is a comic series ( or miniseries ) comprised of 5 issues. Part of the story takes place before Dragon Age Inquisition while the other part takes place during Dragon Age Inquisition. It's a nice tie in piece and a good comic for what it is.

The art is beautiful, though your typical comic style and what is seen in most other Dragon Age comics.

As far as the story goes, it's alright. To be honest It didn't really hook me till the second issue when the story starts to be more involved with the plot of Inquisition ; specifically when Tessa and Marius take a job for the Archon. I did enjoy seeing a little bit of the origins of the Venatori. One twist that I both love and hate is that Marius spares Calpernia. It makes sense especially if you take a certain route in Inquisition. Yet at the same time knowing how the events of Inquisition play out, it's a little frustrating to see, especially considering the plot hole of what happens to Calpernia if you don't take the route where she appears in game. For reference, if you side with the mages in Dragon Age Inquisition, your opposing rival/villain will be Samson. If you side with the mages, it will be Calpernia. Part of that plot hole could be more of a fault on Inquisition.

When it comes to characters, Tessa and Marius are good. You get a feel for their personality but you don't get a whole lot of their backstory. The dynamic of the two is simple - Tessa is the outspoken, extrovert handler while Marius is the strong, silent type. It works for them. Granted, they aren't very memorable as characters, and by that I mean when I think of Dragon Age, they probably won't be the characters that come to mind. That said, Marius and Tessa definitely aren't characters that I'm crazy about.
It is nice to see familiar faces such as Dorian, Iron Bull and the Bull's Chargers. I'm glad that there were no details given about the Inquisitor nor was one shown. I think if they had shown the "Inquisitor" or made a canon version of one, it would ruin the feel of not just the comic and be a bit off putting.

All in all, Dragon Age: Magekiller is a good one time read. I liked it but at the same time I was underwhelmed. With the title being what it is, I had hoped for a bit more lore and possibly just a story about some mage bounty hunters or something of that nature. My recommendation is that unless your a collector, just check it out from your local library either through a paper copy or digitally.
