challenging dark mysterious medium-paced

Transported to a world where she’s is enemy number one and magic, far and monsters exist, Romeria must survive and find her way home.

This book was entertaining and I look forward to reading book 2.

4⭐️. I really enjoyed this one! It is HEAVY on the worldbuilding and political scheming side of royal courts so I think if that’s not always your cup of tea, this wouldn’t be the book for you. But I had a lot of fun reading and while I don’t normally enjoy a memory loss trope, I thought it worked really well here and I’m excited to keep going in the series. Zander and Elisaf were the best parts imo, and I appreciated Romy as an unstupid FMC.

The prologue and beginning kind of turned me off and there were some basic story mistakes I didn't love but the further it went on the more drawn in I was. I'm definitely invested.

I bought this one on a whim and did not expect to like it as much as I did! The plot, world building and characters are all so complex and intriguing, I couldn't stop reading until I got to the end of the final page and now I can't wait to get my hands on the second book.

I'm not going to say anything about the magic system and world building here because I feel it would just be a shame to spoil even one small detail.

I love how the author keeps building the tension with a few different mysteries throughout the entire book and then just unravels them in the last few pages in the most chaotic way possible, making you immediately want more.

All in all a very promising start to the series - I'd definitely recommend it to every romantasy lover out there!

I thought this started off strong and then REALLY lagged in the middle before kicking off again right at the end. Not sure if I’ll continue the series or not.

You know that trope where a main character gets yeeted into a completely unfamiliar fantasy world and has to fumble their way through it? Yeah, I eat that up every time—and A Fate of Wrath & Flame does it so well!

Romeria starts off in the real world, minding her own business (well, more like stealing her own business), when she suddenly finds herself in the body of a disgraced princess in a kingdom on the brink of war. What follows is a deliciously twisty fantasy adventure where everyone assumes she has amnesia, so they just start info-dumping left and right—and honestly? It’s such a refreshing way to introduce a complex world without overwhelming the reader.

So, let’s talk vampires. This book has one of the coolest vampire origin stories I’ve read: a deal gone wrong with a fate that grants immortality but curses them with an unquenchable bloodlust for the mortals they once loved. It adds such a tragic depth to the worldbuilding, making the stakes (pun intended) even higher.

And then there’s the romance. The setup here is so unique: instead of a slow burn between two strangers, we get Romeria and Zander, a king and his supposedly treacherous fiancée, who are now forced to interact with all the messy baggage of a past Romeria has no recollection of. It’s like we’ve skipped ahead to book three of an enemies-to-lovers series where the betrayal has already happened—but we’re only just starting. The tension? Off. The. Charts! Just take one of my favorite quotes as a fine example:

“Besides, is this so insufferable?” Humor dances in his eyes.
He knows it’s not. “Are you testing me?”
“I’m always testing you, Romeria.” Quietly, he adds, “And you are always testing me.”

I love this push-and-pull dynamic. The way they circle each other, trying to figure out where they stand while the world around them spirals into chaos, makes for such an intense and satisfying read.

As the first book in a fantasy series, A Fate of Wrath & Flame absolutely delivers. It’s packed with intrigue, tension, and just the right amount of what the heck is happening energy to keep you hooked. I cannot wait to see where this story goes next!

3.5/5 was a bit sjm-esque at points but I had fun with the isekai concept.
