I liked getting an explanation about what was going on, but the rest of this book was so very repetitive and predictable. :/

I signed up for a GoodReads account JUST to comment on how much I hate Clare. First of all, She blames Doran for killing her aunt when she TOLD HIM TO DO THAT.
THEN this idiot woman forgets to recover Peter’s body in the lab which makes it obvious to Ezra that she knows the truth when he goes to check. If this was a realistic book, she is so stupid she would’ve died when Ezra found out what she knew. What person stumbles onto information like that and doesn’t immediately start thinking about how to cover your tracks? She keeps peters dead body completely uncovered? So stupid
There’s other things she does that I hate too but I’m forgetting at the moment - feel free to remind me

Picking up right where book 1, Voices in the Snow left off. Once again there are some character faults that are irritating. Dorran needs to be more assertive, though he has thankfully matured. He is physically stronger, the one with the plan that gets them out of the trouble Clare has gotten them into, and a better judge of character. Clare still has a long way to go. She needs to be taken care of a lot and it is because of her bad choices, and stubbornness that they find themselves in worse situations than they would have been. She does not listen to her instincts and it is frustrating to experience as a reader repeatedly. Otherwise, D.C. gave a brief explanation of the important parts from book 1. The information is mixed in with the first part of the book. It felt slow-moving at first but did pick up the pace, once Dorran and Clare leave Winterbourne Hall. The writing and feel of the book are well done. However, it wasn’t all that scary to me, or mysterious though there are some unknowns. It was more action and adventure. I like it enough to move on to read book 3 Secrets in the Dark.

Good follow up to the first book. This time Clare and Dorran leave Winterbourne to find Clare's sister who is trapped in her bunker. Her sister's air is running out as they race against time to reach her. In their search they get a look at what is happening to the more populated areas and get some hints as to what caused the stillness.
This book felt more reminiscent of the zombie genre than the first, but with a few twists on the monsters that helped it feel fresh. You get to see them fight more of the monsters in this book and it helped make a few very tense scenes. I enjoyed the way this one ended and can't wait for the next book in the series.

A good read, but not the best in the series. In the first half it felt like it went a little off topic but the end tied it all together
