Whyyyyy did it have to end that way? Now I have to read book three.
Not much to say besides, Darcy Coates' stories make me nervous and grossed out in the best way possible. This book didn't disappoint, besides the first part being slow and a little repetitive. But I loved the last third of this book so much.

Secrets in the Dark by Darcy Coates
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Synopsis: Clare and Doran continue to try and secure Winterbourne against the hollows. Clare’s sister Beth has made contact and her bunker has lost power and her air is running out. They make the decision to make a rescue attempt.
My Thoughts: This second novel is a bit faster than the first and is redeeming for the series for me. While some of what they accomplish along the way is pretty far fetched, it still makes for a good story and I’m looking forward to see just where Darcy can take me in the rest of the series.

I continue to have a good time with this series. I enjoyed the 2nd half of the book more than the first. The amount of dumb luck these 2 have is amazing lol. I love to root for them, though! Their romance is cute but does sometimes feel a little juvenile. I hold out hope it will just get better as the story continues.
slow-paced
Despite my disappointment with what felt like a sudden genre change in previous book I genuinely enjoyed this one. Darcy has successfully managed to create genuinely terrifying creatures and I actually felt a tightness in my chest, and discomfort in my stomach whilst reading, something I’ve never felt with similar books.
My only issue, and I felt it in the first one aswell, is that the relationship between Dorran and Clare feels incredibly forced. It doesn’t flow smoothly, and hearing Dorran talk to Clare often makes me cringe. Unfortunately as a main character Clare too has moments in which her language and way of talking comes across as unnatural. I find my self hoping that new characters are introduced in the next books as hopefully this will become less of an issue.
At the end of the first book I wasn’t too sure I was going to continue with the series if this book didn’t grip me, but this book has engaged my interest and I will absolutely give the next one a shot.
