There was just sooo much going on - it was almost too much to keep up with to be enjoyable. The East African mythology was unique but there were too many competing plot lines
3.5 stars for this dark academia vampy romance⭐️⭐️⭐️(.5)

I was really torn between getting this book 3 1/2 OR 4 stars. But the longer I feel like I sit with my reaction to this book I feel like I’m leaning towards rounding it down to a three or a three and a half, let me tell you why.
Coming from someone who personally loves dark academia vampire romance I thought that going into this, it was going to be more like Gothickana (another different book with similar settings), where it’s like more dark academia vibes/setting and less like…. here’s all this really jampacked vampire lore dating back to like the 21st-century, and also a ton of fictional history for the reader. I would say at times I felt submerged into the story but also I felt like inundated with to much information kind of like…why is this important to me? Sometimes it felt like a little too much information? Am I allowed to say that lol. This definitely was still a good read in the sense that it did still all fall under the category of dark academia.

Onto my review of the romance/spice!

I had such high hopes for this book but it fell flat for me. The characters are childish (especially considering one if a 300+ year old VAMPIRE) and the plot is so confusing. A little bit of world building and perhaps a bit more of an explanation on certain things would have been helpful. In fact, I think it would have changed the book for the better! But we were constantly told things (in the most minimal way) and never shown anything through the characters eyes or actions. It was so disappointing.
5% in DNF
The writing style makes the story hard to follow and I found myself losing interest while reading.
