Thank you to Libro.fm and the publisher for the ALC of this book. A poignant, emotional, and hopeful story about love, loss, and new love. I finished this book so quickly, I just couldn’t stop listening. The narrator of the audiobook is wonderful as well.

I actually listened to the audiobook for this one and absolutely loved it! Antonia Beamish did a wonderful job narrating this book. I loved her voice changes and the pauses she added -- she knew exactly how to captivate the reader and bring Fiona Lucas's book to life.
The characters in this story are realistic and relatable going through life and coping with grief in their own way. The Last Goodbye is a bittersweet story about loss, moving on, and allowing yourself to accept happiness and forgiveness.

The Last Goodbye is a very poignant story about love and loss and loving again; the risks we take to move on and put ourselves out there.
"I beg your pardon" - what a great way to pivot a story. I really enjoyed this book! I appreciated the two points of view and that allowed us to get to know Anna and Brody better. I thought all of the characters had such depth, including Anna's mother-in-law. And I loved Anna's best friend, Gaby. I also enjoyed the developing relationship between Anna and her sister-in-law. I feel we all have interesting family dynamics with our in-laws and the author did a good job of portraying that.
I was also fortunate enough to get an audio copy of this novel and thought the narration was excellent.
Thank you to NetGalley and William Morrow for this advanced digital copy.

Wow - the amount of love I have for this book and these characters is absolutely insane. I haven’t read characters this well developed and with so much depth in so long. I wouldn’t say that it’s an easy read - there is so much discussion of grief throughout this book that I had to put it down at times because it made me so sad my heart hurt. But it’s so worth it. The message of healing was entirely important, especially in regards to differing timelines and others reactions, and it just hits different when you’ve experienced loss of your own. I’m not sure who I would recommend this book too because it was such a hard read for me, but it has felt really important and impactful to my own journey.

I’m typically able to tear through a romance novel in a day because I find them to be fast-paced and easy to read. I went into this book expecting the same (but with some grief added in for ✨spice✨) but what I got instead was a story of traumatic grief and the journey of healing after loss alongside a lovely, slow-burn romance. I’ve mentioned before that I’m a sucker for the ‘anonymous penpal’ trope and I loved that trope’s execution here. I think it was fitting how slowly Anna and Brody’s friendship developed and changed into romance, but the combination of the slow-burn romance and the book not having a ton of plot-fodder otherwise did make the book limp along quite slowly in parts.

This was a complete snoozefest. What I thought would be a cute romance formed through phone calls was a slow moving, grief story that felt heavy. I skimmed a lot of the pages because the content was boring, and not many big events seemed to happen over the course of the book. I also really disliked the agoraphobia storyline. That part was entirely unnecessary to the story.
I LOVED this book. It was a beautiful look into the minds of two complete strangers who both craved another humans love and understanding.
I have the time today to say what needs to be said. Firstly, it’s definitely my fault for taking interest in such a cookie cutter hallmark-ass book. And for what? Why did I think this was going to be anything other than a big fat cliche?
I was wrong to think this was going to be a substantial read when in reality, the whole book could be cut down 200 pages if they would just get to the point. Am I bitter? Probably, but almost everything I say has traces of satire anyways so who cares, toss caution to the wind like the author did with the plot of this book. What really throws me is that the FMC needed a man to dig her out of her 3 year grief induced hibernation, and beyond that, she was a complete IDIOT. A full blown pushover to anything that challenged her. Ugh and not to mention that almost every verse of dialogue was predictable. Nothing standout here, ever.
But anywaysss, hindsight is 20/20 and I will never again give a book like this a chance again in my life. someone had to be my worst book of 2024 and I would happily award it to the same book made me never want to hear the word grief again.
