The Last Goodbye

This was a Goodreads giveaway and I loved it! Anne has lost herself after the death of her husband Spencer. On New Years Eve she dials his cell phone so she can hear his voicemail again. Only this time someone else picks up, Brody. Together they form a bond over phone calls trying to help each other through the tragedies they faced.

I loved this book. The first part is slow but not because there is anything wrong, it’s because you’re moving with Anne as she tries (and fails numerous times) to pull herself out of this deep depression. Once you get to Part 2 of the book it picks up the pace a ton.

This was a well written book with a beautiful story. This book deals with heartache and grief in a such a beautiful way. I found myself almost crying near the end. This is definitely a must read

I have received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

The Last Goodbye just tugged on my teeny tiny heart strings. In it, you will meet Anna and she is a very interesting character. She lost the love of her life, Spencer, and calls his number just to hear his voice. I honestly have no idea what I would do if I was in her shoes.. but the way she is coping with this awful situation seems kind of normal. At least to me.

So one day she calls the number and is expecting his lovely voice.. but then someone actually picks up. Now at this point, I probably would've screamed and hung up. Just because I'm extremely awkward and probably would've shat my pants. Especially when you aren't expecting someone to pick up. So yeah.. that most definitely would've happened if it was me.

Between you and me, I loved Anna and Brody because they could both lean on another and heal. The one thing I didn't like was how damn pushy her in-laws were. I wanted to punch them when they were like.. you can't be happy now that he's dead and gone. Uh, no.. that's not how this works.

Everyone grieves and heals in their own way. Which this book did a great job diving into that. It just bugged the heck out of me when people would say Anna wasn't doing it right. There is no right or wrong way to any of this. So, yeah, some things frustrated me but the overall book was really good.

I was drawn to this book because of the mention of PS I Love You, I was in the mood for another book in this same type of vein. Overall, I did like this book but found it moved very, very slow. Although, if you stick with it, the characters do grow on you and you feel for them. This is what happened to me.

In the beginning, I was feeling this story but then it wavered some. Every time I started to think about stopping this book, it would pick up again for me. This was the vibe for me throughout the whole book. Yet, I was here for the characters. The middle feel a bit flat for me but the last third of the story picked up again and finished off nicely. There are a lot of emotions woven into these characters. While, I might not have "loved" this book, I still liked it and would suggest readers give it a try.

Aaaahhhhh...a book with lovable characters. I am going to miss Anna and Brody.

I do not read romance books. It's just not my thing. I would likely not have bought this one, but again, this is another great title from libro.fm. This is less of a romance and more of an emotional journey for two beautiful characters. Definitely recommend this one. It's a great summer read.

“How can you move on if you can’t let go?” Poignant, hopeful, and full of emotional power, an unforgettable story in the vein of P.S. I Love You about two people learning to love again after great loss, perfect for fans of Jojo Moyes and Josie Silver.” {Thank you to @williammorrowbooks for the gifted book.}

Daaaaang, Fiona, you got me. I don’t know if grief is a trope or sub-trope, but man - that gets me every time!

Anyone who’s actually read the words in my captions can see a pattern of my love of a well-written novel dealing with grief. Gloss over it? I won’t be a fan. Walk through it with clarity and honest heartbreak? Yeah, count me in. I’ve walked through miles of my own grief and I need my stories to reflect that journey.

The Last Goodbye does just that.

It’s a slow burn, long-distance (accidental) friendship that builds into something more. The question is whether each can get to the growth stage of moving on so they can rebuild together. Oh that ending!!! This was my favorite book in May!

What a beautifully written story! The author really delves into grief and the journey of moving back into life after losing a loved one.

3.5 rounded up - A great story of overcoming grief and dealing with crippling social anxiety. For fans of PS I love you or Evvie Drake starts over. Really enjoyed this sloooow burn British romance that focuses on losing a loved one in tragic ways and how difficult moving on can be. Really well written! Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan audio for advance listening review copies of this new title out June 8th.
