The quintessential friends to lovers trope, done very expertly for the most part. I loved both of the main characters and it was killing me to figure out what the big twist was. Somewhere around 3/4 it became obvious and the sadness I felt was deep, just waiting for the inevitable to happen. Honestly the only thing  bad i can say about this is a spoiler -
the scene at the wedding was infuriating. It left a horrible taste in my mouth, I had grown to love Elliot and for him to act like his drunken infidelity wasn’t “good enough” for her to decide to be done with him is INSANE. You pine over someone for 11 years, knowing you fucked up, and then when have her back and you guys try talk about it you rage about how her decision to leave effected YOU?! Come on bro. Take some responsibility. Her dad didn’t have to die for that. Side note, personally I think the dad dying story would’ve been more impactful if he had died on the way to see her after she forgot to call, but that has no impact in my rating. It’s just what I thought was going to happen and it would’ve been even easier for her to blame Elliot for what happened.

I absolutely loved this book. I loved the alternating timeline, for the story of it, but also because it kept me reading to find out more. Their story is cute, sad, and very real and romantic. One of my favorite books! I will definitely be buying more from Christina Lauren

Lovely book depicting the passion of soulmates and the power of second chances. This story was beautifully written and brought me to tears more than once. Mace and Elliot’s lives are so ingraved in the story, I almost feel their presence. The beauty of their relationship shines through every word on the paper, and I am proud to say I fully enjoyed this. This story felt like the waves of the sea. Sometimes slow, sometimes passionate, calm, furious, saddened, unstable, but mostly powerful. To me the character developemnt of Mace from lonly to happy will be the highlights of the story. The way Elliot and Mace had their favorite words really was unique. I loved the way love was depicted in this story raw, honest, more powerful than time, everlasting, igniting , and living. the story felt like 2 real teenagers destined to be in love. I adore this story.
At first, I considered giving it a 4.75, afterall, it was only a romace book. But I ultimetly decided that this book deserved nothing less than a 5.
The only complaint(more like a personal preferance) was the sexual content. It definitly felt realistic and beautiful, but I felt that sometimes the story heavily relied on it for plot stability. I persoanlly don’t find that pleasing, but I can understand why its a great too to use.

I FLEW through this book -- such a charming read!
+ I think this is relatable for anyone who had some sort of young love
+ captured so many of those feelings and experiences and fears
+ somewhat unsatisfying ending (one of those that could have just been cleared up with one conversation)
+ I think it also glossed over a bit of a consent issue
+ obsessed with Eliot and their library and the dad

I really loved this book. Best book I’ve read in a while, it was very sweet and refreshing! I loved the alternating timeline each chapter and how you got to see their love story unfold in two different times. It was beautifully written and was a lovely read. My only problem with it was that the ending felt a bit rushed. There was a ton of build up to the conversation they needed to have and it was over too quickly and easily fit my taste. Oh and also I don’t really ever read smut but I have read a little bit before, and I was not a fan of the spicy scenes in this book. It was a small enough part of the book to not take away from it too much but it did bother me, they were just written really weird. Might’ve just been me but it was hard to tell what was actually happening. So if you’re looking for something spicy, I wouldn’t go for this book. This one is more for someone looking for a very sweet, emotional, slow burn friends to lovers. Overall a delightful read, would recommend!

I read this book in under 24 hours and really loved it. I did think the end was rushed. I wanted more of them settling in to each other.
At like 85%  the big reveal happens and then it wraps up quickly after that.
There was also some random slut shaming and Macy pitting herself against other women that didn’t sit right? Like “skanky” isn’t a word I’ve heard tossed around in years, even if this book came out in 2018.
