Book four in the series and things are getting pretty dark, as
Spoilerbabies are kidnapped and 'good' men die
. This is the first appearance of Tom's
Spoiler'superpower'
which sets up a rather plot-breaking mechanic for the books ahead (**though from reading future books, it's sort of... forgotten about, so it doesn't break much!**). Nevertheless, this book was very exciting and a fun read.

This tale of full of troubles; family, spook and witches. Tom's father has died and his Mam is going to back to her own country. When she leaves she leaves Tom all her trunks and when his Dad's will is read he is surprised that he is left his Mam's room in the house. Most often the whole family farm is left to the elders son. Not in this case and not to Jack's liking. At this time Tom doesn't have time to go through the trunks. Mam said that the room would protect him when all choices were gone.
Tom, Alice and the Spook need to head to Pendle to stop the three covens of witches from banning together to raise the darkness. The covens usually fight against each other and to have them come together creates trouble for all those that live around Pendle. It will take all the skills Tom, Alice, John, and James have to keep the witches at bay, but can they stop the witches from raising the Devil?

The spooks battle was one of the best in this series for the amount that happens and, the story goes to pendle hill and we meet the three main witch clans. i love the stories about the witches in these because they're just written so well!

These books are SO GOOD, but scary! Not scary if you're not a wimp, but properly frightening for a total wuss like me. Love love love these books. Alice, Tom, and the Spook are just great characters. I cannot put these books down once I stop! Going to read the 5th one today...

Each book seems to be getting better. The characters and the world are now established more firmly, and while I thought book 1 was slow, once you get to book four, it's hard to put down!
