I had to DNF this at 50 percent. The characters were falling flat for me. I may pick this up again but I really tried because I wanted to like it so much and I just didn’t.

What beautiful storytelling.

Is this moody Scottish folklore? Fairytale? Fantasy? Mystery? ALL OF THE ABOVE?! Either way I’m crying!

Everything about this book was so atmospheric and beautiful. I found the pacing to be somewhat slow, but in a comforting way? Definitely the perfect book to read during Raincouver. MY ONLY CRITIQUE is that Sidra’s storyline was so mfkn compelling, that I started to become less invested in Jack’s storyline LOL.

Sidra you are the herb queen baddie. I wish I had a pure soul like you, but instead I’m an unhinged B. You inspire me to be a better person!!!

This book isn’t terrible, there are some nice elements to it, like the fairy tale style setting, which was done well. But overall, it was extremely predictable and the characters lacked any sort of depth. If you dislike when a character’s feelings change drastically between the span of maybe 12 pages, this book isn’t for you. The romance element of it was pretty bad, IMO; it lacked any sort of chemistry for me and it certainly didn’t fit the enemies-to-lovers vibe that I think it was going for. I thought the dialogue was pretty sub-par, which I can forgive if there’s a really good plot holding the book together, but it just wasn’t there. Wanted to like it, but, 2.5 ⭐️
