This was totally my bad. I never should have started this book, and I wouldn't have if I hadn't previously decided to read every book in this series. Because I hate the bet trope. I find bets like these disrespectful, I find the romance in the midst of it dishonest, I hate that the person who makes the bet never comes forth and that it needs to be revealed for the sake of contrived drama, and I find the following HEA dissatisfying because being seduced over a bet is something I can only forgive in a novel, and only because I can literally read both the characters' thoughts.
I made it 46% before I couldn't stop myself from skipping ahead to see if the trope would play out like it always does. I think a part of me hoped that this would be the one time it wouldn't. I was wrong.
And yet, my dislike has nothing to do with this book specifically. I can see myself enjoying it. The characters are likable, they have good chemistry, the book is fun and very readable. It's also short and very fast-paced. I just can't stand the bet thing. So I'm gonna do a word search for the names of other MCs in the series and move on. No real harm done.

I had a blast reading Neve Wilder’s “Bet You.” Spencer and Cory were absolutely fabulous together. Cory has never met anyone he couldn’t get to like him. He’s a DIK and a charmer and is well known for his outlook on sex positivity. Spencer schools hard, works hard and just wants to come home and unwind after a long day. The thing that stands in his way is Cory’s Jeep. Or any other frat guy’s vehicle. Spencer rarely gets to park in his actual parking spot. So when he first meets Cory, he berates him for being…well…a DIK. Can I just say that’s the best acronym! Lol.
Cory is taken aback by Spencer’s obvious ire and makes it his mission to get Spencer to like him. He also makes a bet with a frat brother that he can get Spencer to sleep with him. Neve does a great job of highlighting how annoying Spencer finds Cory, while also denying how likable he is. Spencer reluctantly admits to himself that Cory is growing on him bit by bit.
Cory wiggles his way into Spencer’s life in more ways than one. The pair start hooking up and as they spend more time together, a deeper connection forms. The scene on the catamaran is just gorgeous. When conflict arises, (hello bet), Cory has to pull out all the stops to get Spencer to give him another chance. It’s a fabulous pop culture reference featuring Tom Holland and Rihanna. One you should definitely look up!
The cast of characters in this book is awesome. There’s plenty of humor and heat. The dialogue is witty. The epilogue is swoon worthy. This book is a great addition to the Franklin U series and I’m definitely excited about book five!
