This book only deepens my love for Del Toro. He applies a huge intellect and artistic eye to monster culture—a man after my own heart.

The book itself is fun to look at. The samples of Del Toro's notebooks are great to see but still left me wanting more. I especially loved the tours and interviews revolving around his house.

Great read for fanboys/girls.

star-studded and just a scary good collection of weird, mystical, peculiar, thrilling stories! Every episode is like a stand alone mini movie in itself. My favorites include: Lot 36, Graveyard rats and Dream’s in the Witch House .

I honestly didn't think I could be more of a Guillermo del Toro fan than I already was. But this compulsively readable and gorgeously designed book ended up enhancing my appreciation for his particular kind of genius many times over. Unlike the Wes Anderson book, which came out around the same time and is also very pretty to look at, this volume gives real insight into an artist's ideas, ambitions, methods, and sensibilities. The result isn't just the best film book of 2013, but the finest of its kind in many years.

Of the two books about del Toro I got for Christmas, this is by far the better of the two. It's basically a long, film-by-film interview with del Toro about his career. The earlier chapters on the earlier films are better, because del Toro has more passion (still) for those projects than his more "accomplished" projects later in his career, but the whole book is worth your time... if you like del Toro's films, that is. Bonus, I added a few titles to my "to read" list that are kinda sorta del Toro recommendations.

This book was fascinating. It is filled with images of Guillermo del Toro’s notebooks and of the Bleak House, along with interviews with del Toro and kind words from those he’s worked with. I thoroughly enjoyed the sneak peek into the mind of one of my favorite directors.

This was an interesting look into the thoughts and art notebooks of a man who created some very iconic films. Makes me think about my own creative methods and my mind.
