A descendant of Ellen Ripley? An empath with connections to the aliens? Not The Queen but A Queen? Mercenaries? Fun? Suspense? Adventure?! Hells yeah.

The cast is large so occasionally I get confused as to which character is speaking but they move the story forward.

Aside from the addition of mild psychic powers, this is a solid Alien story, hitting all the highlights: the crooked company, the power-hungry company stooge, Xenomorphs being alien, explosions, body horror, etc. It’s better than any of the sequels made after Aliens, which is why they went back to James Cameron’s film for inspiration. The other stuff is taken into account, but it’s mostly just mentioned as background.

There’s also an audio adaptation that is like a good old fashioned radio drama, complete with music and sound effects. It’s even better than the book, I think. Someone uploaded it to YouTube if you want to check it out: https://youtu.be/fLRzM5R5ggI If you like Alien and Aliens, you’ll enjoy this, I think.

This was another exciting dramatization in the alien series. We revisit the mining planet where Ripley had her side quest.  This time we sre with Ripmey's distant relative.

As per sualy the company is trying to capture themselves a live xenomorph and are slandering and sacrificing people along the way.

The outcome of this was surprising and I cannot wait to see where the story takes us.

Okay I’m gonna be honest, the conversations in this book are like sooo mediocre but the action sequences and all the fighting truly saved it from being a horrendous book.

Decker wasn’t that cool of a character. If anything, he was the most boring one. Adams and Manning were so much better sorry <3 along with Petey as well.

This is the second in a trilogy of original Alien-universe novels set in and around the original films. Sea of Sorrows is a direct sequel to Tim Lebbon's first installment, with a descendant of Ellen Ripley finding himself in the same xenomorph-infested mines of the first novel, recently excavated. Using this character Decker's empathic ability, we are able to get a glimpse into the creatures' heads a bit, which adds a lot to the mythos. If you're a fan of the series - whether film, comic or novels, this one has EVERYTHING. Soldiers, weapons, and a lot of really pissed off aliens, face huggers and more. Once the action kicks in it does not stop until the very end. Awesome installment of the book series. Highly recommend it.

PS: Like Lebbon's volume 1, I had to stop reading this one at bedtime because I kept having stupid alien nightmares. That should be all the kudos this book needs, really. :)

This falls into the trap of so much Alien-related material in that it's just a rehash of Aliens. A team of hardened, macho mercenaries, along with a "consultant", gets sent into a known alien hive with the mission of capturing a live specimen to bring back. What follows is lots of people in dark corridors being stalked by aliens and lots of shooting. As much as I do love Aliens, in some ways it completely ruined this franchise.

What's the point of telling this story yet again? It's so lazy. And this is even set 300 years later but literally nothing has changed. And there is absolutely zero attempt to create any actual characters.

But the story's momentum keeps it interesting. There's a slightly new twist in that some attempt is made to understand what the aliens are and what they want. One of the human team members has a psychic link with the creatures and is able to decipher some of the more mysterious elements about them. Unfortunately the revelations aren't mind blowing, but it works to add a more creepy layer.

Despite being set centuries later, this is actually quite a direct sequel to Out of the Shadows and revisits numerous elements from it.

As a full-cast audio drama, it's a bit messy but well acted. It's often difficult to know quite what's going on and several characters blend together. Action scenes are especially chaotic. Did a character just die? Had we been introduced to them already? I can't tell. This is just the nature of audio dramas. I do think that this is one of the better ones I've heard, though, with quite a full production.
