I work in child welfare among kids whose failings are constantly broadcast and who are often judged based on what others have done to them. I was worried about the set-up of this story and how else it could add to the mix of what children in out of home care are capable of. But it was well-written and did an excellent job of making sure it is known that nothing is one-dimensional and there are many sides to every story. It reminds that we do not become who we are without the impact of our circumstances and that those things ought to be taken into consideration. And at the end of it all, it still holds fast to a belief in family ties.

Was kind of slow for me and I thought it would be a quick read. Deep empathy for the two siblings and glad the ending was hopeful.

Wowowow that was good.
Good enough to recommend to people just off the top of my head? No. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. But good enough to make me want to read more of Lisa Gardner’s books? ABSOLUTELY!

I was skeptical going into this book, because it is technically part of a series, but let me be the one to tell you- you DO NOT have to read the previous books to understand this one. It reads SO WELL as a stand-alone and I had so much fun reading this book!

I really enjoyed this one. I didn’t realize it was past of a series when I started it so now I definitely want to go back and read the previous ones! I could have sworn I’ve read a book from this author before but apparently this was my first one, and it was pretty good. Loved the characters and the plot. Everything you’re lead to believe is happen isn’t the whole story, which I loved. Thought the ending could have had a little bit more to it. But overall, a great read!

This mystery is something I could have seen in the real world which makes my logic brain and pleasure reading brain happy. It has some twists and turns you don't see coming and some you can figure out with all the clues they give you. The author has done her research and it shows. It can be a little slow at times but it builds up to a climax that is exciting and satisfying. The characters are well developed and relateable as well as realistic. The plot has you guessing without being lost and I didn't want to put the book down till I figured out the next part. Someone make this into a movie, I'd pay to see it.
