This is the first book I've read in the FBI Profiler series. It's unusual for me not to start at the beginning of a series. I don't think it made a difference to my understanding and enjoyment of this story. The characters of Quincy and Rainie gave me incentive enough to go back and start with book #1! I'm looking forward to going into their pasts!

This was a fast paced police procedural that made a hefty emotional impact. Telly and Sharlah are a brother and sister that were separated after a horrific event in their child hood. 8 years later they are reunited by another horrific event. A killer is on the loose and both Telly and Sharlah are thrust into the center of a man hunt. Telly must decide if he's a zero or hero while Sharlah must face the truth of events that happened all those years ago and both must decide if family is worth fighting for.
My heart immediately went out to both of these characters for the events that were out of their control and the resulting anguish they suffered. While this is a Quicy and Rainie story, Telly and Sharlah are the true stars of the show and it is their story that carried this book.

This was my first Lisa Gardener book. Not sure if I’ll read anymore. I only skimmed this from about halfway. There was so much that bothered me about this story -
Rainbow and Quincy just seemed really dopey and mismatched.
The parts of the story told from 13 yr old Sharlahs perspective were so unauthentic ....like when she described - “....it’s plenty big by a foster kid’s standards. Open floor plan, exposed beams, massive stone fireplace.....and there are lots of fun details. A stone-inlaid floor in the foyer. custom-Butt birch-stock bannister...” seriously?? A -13 yr old foster kid with this eye for interior decorating and familiarity with all these terms??
When Henry comes home and the cops are like - you can’t go in your house since it’s a crime scene, but stay near by. They believe a serial killer is on the loose who has just killed both his parents and they don’t feel the need to protect him?
The whole plot really. And how Sharlah tracks down her brother in a few hours and then keeps up with the whole ridiculous, convoluted plot (which is spelled out in excruciating detail in the later chapters).
The Cal the cheese maker /“tracker” plot ....silly, silly, silly. Was he supposed to be a main character? He was featured heavily but in such a monotonous fashion...with multiple references to his job as cheese maker and boring details on his tracking.
In short, this book had a silly plot, silly characters, silly dialogue ...and why did I read it?? I guess being on a plane it was a way to pass time...

Another terrific book from Lisa Gardner. Lots of twists and turns, just like I like it.

I love the Quincy and Rainie series, although this one was a little telling. About halfway through the book I knew what had happened. Still, a great read.
Rainie and Quincy are in the process of adopting their foster child Sharlah, who comes with a lot of baggage. Her brother Telly killed their parents in self defense 8 years ago when she was 5 and her brother 9. However, the past may have caught up with her big brother as her parents search for him since he has because the killer on the loose of the small town is Bakersville. Or has he...
