Not a fan of this book. It finally took a turn for the better at 65% through and the epilogue made me sob. So that alone gets a star.

I was very excited to see that Gardner's new book would feature Quincy and Rainie once again and Gardner did not disappoint. I was particularly delighted that the setting for the book is a thinly veiled homage to Tillamook, Oregon and the surrounding mountain and ocean areas. This locale is one of my favorite on the planet and it was fun reading about an area I know so well. Good story idea, excellent character development and a mystery to the end- super enjoyable.

ARC from publisher.

At the onset of this book I did not think I was going to like it. Boy was I wrong. A lot of thrillers I've read don't do a great job of making me invested in the characters, but RBY did. I also thought the messages about finding family were really sweet.

Loved it. It was nice to revisit Quincy and Rainie and their soon to be adopted daughter Sharlah. You couldn't find a more stoic set of parents, yet their interactions with Sharlah and her oppositional defiant disorder was refreshing and entertaining. Sharlah is a good fit for these damaged profilers.

Gardner knows how to build a complex case and Right Behind You is no exception. Lots of levels to ponder and solid police procedural which begins with the local Sheriff investigating a double murder at an EZ gas station. When Sharlah's older brother Telly Ray shows up on a video feed and his foster parents turn up dead in their home it is up to Quincy and Rainie to find the spree killer and protect their daughter.

This book can be read as a standalone novel as the author gives enough backstory to help the reader understand why these veteran profilers behave the way they do. Is Telly Ray a hero or a zero? You'll have to read the book to find out.

Absolutely love this author and this series. She is one of my favs.

Excellent read. Great character development. Tons of twists and turns and for the bad guy ended up being someone I didn't think it could possibly be.

I liked this more than I expected to. The writing style wasn’t terribly elevated, but the characters are likable and there’s an urgent need to discover the story’s truths.

Solid thriller. I found it quite enjoyable.
