A very ambitious narrative structure but one that I think paid off well. The twists and turns were delightfully unexpected and although mystery isn't usually my genre, I enjoyed it! The family dynamics and the commentary on cycles of abuse were also very good.

Lisa Gardner has been one of fav authors from the time I took a chance to read The Other Daughter and since then almost all her books have captivated me. This one is actually much milder than I expected, kind of used to those chilling and creepy villainous characters that she draws. This one featuring Quincy and Rainie after such a long time has more emotions and heart maybe coz its main protagonists are teenagers. We keep hearing Telly's and Sharlah's views in certain chapters and the angst they are going thru comes across giving us a hitch when reading them.
Purely brilliant in its flowing story and of course such colorful set of investigators even the tracker Cal Noonan and bringing back Shelly Atkins from Gone, it was all so wonderfully done. And I kept feeling Sharlah is going to have her own series soon, I hope Ms. Gardner is listening!

Interesting characters and a few small twists that were fun to explore. There was a certain repetitiveness to some of the characters thoughts and ideas that made me feel antsy to keep moving forward, to suss out what was really going on beyond the red herrings.
Overall I personally prefer the D.D Warren books.
And while I understand that the narrator is tasked with bringing the characters to life and they take their cues from the text, listening to conversations with an elderly sick angry character was annoying, enough that I had wished I was reading instead of listening.

This was an enjoyable and easy read. I haven't read any other books from this series, but it works well as a stand alone. Telly and Sharlah are brother and sister who survived a terrible childhood tragedy. They have since been with separate families. Sharlah learns that her brother may have murdered his foster family. Her law enforcement parents work on discovering where Telly is and what his motives are. The novel had the right amount of suspense without feeling over the top.
I enjoyed the book. I haven't read any of the other books in the series, but I might go back and read them now.
I'm so sad to have finished this book. Quincy and Rainie are my favorite characters that Gardner has created. It has been way too long since they've had their own book and it was great to see them in action again!
Lisa Gardner is one of my favorites but this one just didn’t do it for me, and I don’t know why.

The plot twist was a bit much for me. I thought it was a bit of a reach that a character we only saw for less than 2 chapters turned up to be so important in the unveiling of the story. I still enjoyed the explanation behind it. A good read.
