Glimmers of great— I was very into the romance + murder mystery/thriller concept, but it felt a bit rushed and forced.
just very meh. I wasn't a fan of the writing style and it obviously affected the way the romance AND the intrigue developed. Felt rushed at times while at the same time lacking the proper development which made it all feel very lacklustre.
def 14% I don't know why this series just doesn't work for me. I can't get myself to enjoy the books. I always struggle with mysteries in romance, but I couldn't get myself to care about the characters. I felt like this book was an odd mix of both too much exposition and yet not enough because I felt like I needed to already know who the characters were from the previous books (which I've read but don't remember). Maybe I'll come back to this one when I'm on less of a tight reading schedule.
With a Spinster's Guide to Danger and Dukes, Manda Collins is officially a new favorite historical romance author. This series is fiercely feminist, with fantastic dialogue and genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. How could you expect anything else for a series called Ladies Most Scandalous?!? Manda always writes the swooniest leads, and Joshua and Poppy were no exception. I adored everything about their enemies to lovers journey.
